Crazy Idea I had

Postby Aaron Coffee » Sat Jun 16, 2012 10:58 pm

This is a crazy idea I had, build a teardrop on a t-bucket frame. Haven't decided which way I would do it, make the drivers compartment inside the teardrop (teardrop starting at cowl) or the teardrop starting behind the seats, the driver sitting in the open similar to old limosuines. It would have to be powered by something as unique as the rest of it, possibly a slant 6 dodge with a 3 speed overdrive manual tranny. Pretty much a lottery dream. Has anyone built or seen something similar?

If you're replicating a Ford, why not keep it Ford?

The slant six was a dependable engine but sure is ugly...I had one in my first car, a '64 Dodge w/push button.

This pic was posted in another thread. So you're thinking of a teardrop kind of version of this Aaron?

Yep, kind of a street rod version of that with a terdrop on the back. Just a thought I've had. Let's see I have three small block Chryslers in the garage (273, 318, and a bored and stroked 340), a 355 Chevy, a 440 Chrysler in the motorhome, enough parts to build a couple Dodge 2.2s. If I did ever build it, I would use a powertrain to get good economy over brute horsepower. A Ford straight six is a thought, we did borrow a Ford pickup with a straight six to haul the racecar once and it seemed to have more power than the 350 chevy pickup we borrowed. I have heard people that have thought of building a teardrop on the back of a older pickup, hmm that's another thought.

Winning lottery ticket pipe dream # 789.....

Image

This body with a small cylinder diesel utility engine to power an electric generator for electric rear single wheel drive. Dual wheel front steer.

Ironically I have a pickup truck lumber rack that is shaped somewhat similar when inverted. It might make a good starting point for the frame and sidewall structure.
Growing older but not up !

Just a lottey dream. I do know a guy that built a c-cab from scratch, so if I ever did build it, I would pick his brain. Just thinking about it, the one area that has me stumped is how I would do the rear kick up that is used on most t-buckets, it would eat into the teardrop space. Thinking just a sleeping cab, no galley. I would of course pull a teardrop with it, or a motorcycle trailer, that would fix my problem of not being able to take my motorcycle camping. I would want the teardrop integrated in the t-bucket body somehow, so it simply didn't look like a t-bucket with an extended frame with a teardrop on it. Guess I will have to play around with pencil and paper and learn how to play with pictures, and buy a lottery ticket.

Something like this?

Maybe paint it a bright color and get rid of the feathered urns so it doesn't look like a hearse...

How about front wheel drive in order to get the tear down to a comfortable height for easy access? Maybe an older Toronado or Caddy fwd chassis or possibly a Dodge Caravan. Just thinking out loud, but the possibilities seem endless depending how talented you are!

I like your idea. Now if it were mine, I'd go as modern as possible. You'll get more efficiency, and won't have to hunt for parts. 8) It's not as hard as most people think to adapt a computerized engine to and old chassis. Just a thought.

Of course, there would be an awful lot of wiring and that might not be your thing.

Maybe a casual stroll around the junk yard to see what's readily available still?
