What instrument is best for applying fiberglass epoxy? Would a paintbrush work?

I like to use a brush and a squeegue for glassing. As far as brushes are concerned, get the ones with the black bristles...you can see if they shed

I like to use 2" disposable chip brushes to apply the epoxy and then use a 4" high density foam roller to spread it out away from the tape and create the feathered transition. After bedding the tape on the first coat, I use a vertical (dabbing) motion with the brush to keep from moving the tape. The second and subsequent passes can be normal brush strokes. With the roller, use very light pressure directly over the tape and increase the pressure as you move away from the tape to make the epoxy edges thinner. After running the roller, you will have to use the brush to "tip" the air bubbles out with long light strokes. Don't worry about those minor sag lines that may form on vertical surfaces as they will sand out easily.
