Newbie From KC with a build starting :)

Postby finleycraft » Mon Jun 25, 2012 7:46 am

Hello World!
My name is Caleb and I live in Leawood KS. I have been watching this forum with delight for quite some time and finally get to start my build. After some batering I picked up a Coleman Popup that had already been gutted for $175. The dimensions are a bit different for a teardrop at 6'4"x8'9". I started as soon as I got home by gettting it down to the frame. I have a neighbor who has a dumster currently and they were kind enought to let me throw the scrap away in it. So Lucky me no dump run :). The next step will be some krud Kutter, some scraping and then painting it. I will make sure to post tons of pictures as watching other people build them on here has been quite fun for me. well once I figure out how to post pics i'll start putting them up here.

*edit -Pictures figured out, not sure if this is the best way to add them but here they are none the less.

Hi Caleb
Welcome to the Forum.
As you have probably alreadys seen if you have been on the Build Journal, all you need to do next is cut the outriggers of of your frame. And Voila! You have a teardrop chassis!
Good Luck with your Build.

Welcome to the forum Caleb. We're about 50 miles from you on the east side of the state line.We have camping friends that live in Leawood. Hope to meet up with you camping some time. I was thinking the same thing on the frame but Vedette beat me to it. Good luck with your build I'll be watching it with interest.

Gary

Thanks Gary,
One of the things I look forward to is the community that teardropper have built. I am sure that at some point camping will be had. I am not from this area rather I am a transplant as of 2003. I have yet to really explore camping in KS or Missouri so feel free to pass on some good places to go with a toddler. :)

my build can be found here now viewtopic.php?f=50&t=51053

Welcome Caleb! Kansas' State Parks are, well, not the best. I do most of my camping in Missouri. Close ones to KC that I like are Westin Bend, Watkins Mill, and Arrow Rock.

Crawford State Park, south of Fort Scott, is pretty nice. If your ready to camp in September we'll be in the group area the 20th thru the 23rd.

My wife and I have visited Westin and Watkins on day trips but never camped. We were curious about camping there and how good they were. September, we will have to see how well I do on my build by then if we are drivable that would be an option.
