So was it in the same city that it was found at apartment complex or did it leave the area.

Same city. I would venture to guess the perp only had it in their possession for a very short period of time before dumping it.

most of the time units are stolen is for what is inside. but I am glad that you can start over.

http://www.campertrailers.org/securing_your_camper.htm
it is interesting to see what is out there. My trailer does not look like all the others and therefore stands out. I would love to own a Raindrop by campinn my favorite, but if I did own one I would add something to it like a blue stripe so it did not look like all the others.
but I believe not only is a good lock the best answer but making it time consuming too. Like wrapping a cable around a wheel 4 or 5 times so they have to stay and work on steeling it. Most of them want to hit and run.

it is amazing all the locks made for such google images and enter trailer locks.
I also found out that they can just pull the pin on your car so find a lick pin.
but be careful not to get a cheep lock found at most stores. Figure out a way that is unusual. Solid locks or cable can be cut. so make it a little more difficult and time consuming. you may hate me later because it took you so long to unlock it, but it may have make a bad person look for ezyer prey.

If you are leaving your trailer for a time you could just cover it with a car cover making breaking into the trailer harder and less quick. We might hide a portable computer but not a $200 tankless hot water heater. you want to make it friendly for people to drop by and say high but also it they see cables or chains those who do steal will know it will take time to do it. Same goes with your trailer my trailer sits in front of my house the hitch facing the street. the support wheel is up it rests on a jack stand the hitch is wrapped and tied. the trailer is covered most of the time.

I hope that non of you ever get your trailer broken into nor stolen and am glad the person who did got it back.

I'm glad you got it back - but here is a cautionary tale:

A car was once abandoned at our church parking lot. It was evident that the car had been stripped - so the sheriffs department called a wrecker and had it towed. The office explained that this was a new tactic used by thieves - abandon a stripped vehicle, wait for it to be recovered and subsequent time on the lot, then show up at the county auction to buy the hulk - and get a legitimate title - and guess who had all the parts to put it all back together???
