Need a double offset hinge

Postby les45 » Tue Jun 26, 2012 7:23 pm

I need a set of double offset hinges for the tailgate on my weekender. Offsets need to be symmetrical with about a 3/8" offset gap between the two leaves when fully open. I need this to accommodate the trim pieces that I will be installing on the corners. All I see in the big box stores are the cabinet style offset hinges that are asymmetrical, usually with just one side offset. I've seen a few advertised online, but they do not give the dimension for the offset.

Anyone know where I can find a double offset hinge with 3/8" to 1/2" gap?

No, Mike, that is the typical cabinet hardware that I'm finding at HD and Lowes. It is offset on one side only. I could use those, but I would need a spacer under one side. The double offset has an offset on both leaves so that both leaves can be mounted flat in the same plane without a spacer and still leave a gap when they are fully open. I'm using corner molding with an insert all around the edges on my weekender. It is 3/16" thick so I have to accommodate the two pieces coming together (3/8") when the tailgate fully opens. I've seen some listed for boat boxes, but I can't find out for sure how much the offset gap is since they don't list it or show an end view. Finding these odd parts is just half the fun of the build.
Thanks for the effort.

No, that is a double offset with the offsets reversed. It is used to make a door swing wider than its actual width. That same company makes one like I am looking for, but I can't find the dimensions anywhere. I have written to the seller on ebay to find out the exact dimensions. I think I am getting close, but like I told Mike in the previous post, this is half the fun.
Thanks for trying.

Maybe? That one is close, but not exactly what I'm looking for. Actually the right hand leaf is supposed to go on the back of the cabinet door. The offset is a little too much as I only need 3/8" and I don't need the backset, but I could make it work if I don't find the right kind. I've seen these at HD and Lowes with about the same dimensions.
