The primer that I used was the oil based Kilz. It's just a guess that the primer had anything to do with the delamination but the luan remained in good shape for a way too long before the primer was ever applied.

The Escape Pod is no more

Tom; What else would a man wear on a 109 degree day when taking a sawsall and 12 pound sledge to destroy a teardrop trailer that he created?

Flip flops? :)

Give a person a fish and you feed them for a day; teach a person to use the Internet and they won't bother you for weeks.

You are right Greg, the only reason for not wearing flip flops that day was that the doc at the VA just day or two earlier had trimmed both of my big toenails all the way up both sides due to ingrown nails. The steel toed boots seemed like a better idea, to protect the very tender toes .....

As I was loading the last of the Escape Pod's cabin on my other trailer for it's impending trip to it's final resting place (the city dump), I realized for the first time that the hatch is still in perfect condition, no delamination at all and the paint is in excellent condition. On closer examination I was reminded that, in my effort to avoid spring back, I had used two layers of oak vener interior paneling instead of one layer of 1/4" luan (it's what I had on hand and it was intended to be skinned in aluminum at the time). The interior paneling actually held up fine while the "exterior grade" luan came all to pieces, all the wood got the same primer and paint.

I finally decided what to do with my Harbor Freight trailer. I moved the axle up to where the manufacturer intended it to be, removed the stabalizers and the tongue jack and passed the trailer on to my brother in law. He and his wife will use as a flat bed trailer for their canoe, bicycles and tent camping gear. I watched it leave my driveway a few minutes ago, there was a thunderstorm going on at the time so I guess you can say that it left with a bang (or should that be "boom"). :( :(

Hey Bruce, how's it going?

I'm not sure as far as camping trailers go. I would jump at the chance to give a Casita a try if I could find a used one at a good price. Or I might give restoration of an older small travel trailer a go if one comes a long that appears to be worth the effort. Right now my wife and I have unlimited use of her mother's motor home so there is no need to rush out and buy something. Time will tell.

We went camping last weekend with a couple that have a 40' 5th wheel. We had a potluck and since it was a little chilly, 8 couples piled into their trailer to eat. For the first time, I was lured (maybe only a little) to the dark side of a larger trailer. Good luck with you're search and post some pictures when you find a trailer.
