Looking for 7/71 single mantle lantern

Postby danlott » Sun Jun 24, 2012 4:36 pm

IRG is coming up fast and also my birthday is in July, so I have been thinking about getting a lantern. I was born in July 1971, so thought it would be cool to find a lantern also born the same time I was. I am looking for a single mantle lantern. Green would be ok, but really like a different color.

Does anyone out there have something that they are willing to part with at a reasonable price that was born on 7/71?

I found a 2 mantle coleman, that was made on 7/71, on ebay with a buy it now price. The price seems pretty high, what do you guys think?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-7-71-COLEMAN-220F-2-Mantle-LANTERN-with-ORIGINAL-BOX-PACKING-PAPERWORK-/370623092940?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item564adb98cc

You can buy a new one for pretty close to this price.

it's a steep price for a 220F as a whole Dan. They normally run in the $10 to $20 range in the open market. BUT, it is a desired date which adds personal value, and looks like its in good shape. Many folks have paid well above market for a b-day lantern, it gets to be more about having the date than cash value. I checked all mine for your date but didn't have it.

I recently passed on one with my b-date (which has proven quite hard to find) that went for $90 on the bay.

Thank you Shaun for checking out your collection. I will just keep my eyes open and be watching ebay for a good deal, but pretty hard to find a good deal on ebay.

You might try looking under the vintage stuff on etsy.com. Get to the vintage section and then put in your search with just Coleman lantern and see what pops up. Many of them will not have the dates listed, but you can always email to ask.
Good luck! I did pay a premium price to get mine on eBay, but less than the one you're looking at and it was the red 200A.

Hey Dan If you can wait until the Twain and Tears I can bring you down a couple of lanterns to pick from. Probably E and F 220 models. Then no shipping

That is if I can still make that campout. I have no idea what is going to happen on the job front here. I am going in at 8 am tomorrow to beg for one.

That you for the offer Randy. I have only found one 220F on ebay, but they want a pretty penny for it. I am beginning to think that the Coleman lantern factory was on strike in July 1971.

Dan

There are several dates that seem to be less common. I have looked for my wife's b-day (1/68) several times and have only seen 1 fount but no complete/semi-complete lanterns. I have seen several with my b-day go for stupid money (like waffle dog iron stupid or more).

Just keep looking, one will turn up someday that no one wants more than you do. At least that what I keep telling myself.
