Movie: Moonrise Kingdom

Postby BillZ » Tue Jul 03, 2012 6:40 am

My wife and I saw Moonrise Kingdom last weekend and I enjoyed it as much for the carefully staged scenes as I did the story. Set on a Maine Island in 1965, it is full of fun visuals of scouting and vintage camping gear. The vintage lovers here will find it candy for the eyes.

It is a type of offbeat, dry humor that not everyone will prefer but if you saw and liked Rushmore or The Royal Tenenbaums, it is the same director, Wes Anderson. He stages every scene like it was in a window at Macy's. They are perfect and full of every detail you can imagine.

A trailer of the movie is here for those that are interested:

It looks like fun...I'm going to try and see it. Just seeing Bruce Willis with hair is worth the price of a ticket.

When we worked on the movie "Taking Woodstock" with our 62 Ford a few years ago there was a lot of vintage camping gear and bicycles on the set, and one old camper. Most of the stuff isn't noticeable in the movie. I found out too late that all that stuff got sold in a yard sale type setting. I did get a Coleman Picnic Stove from a guy that bought it from the production company. I'm still not happy about missing that sale, it was only 20 minutes from my house!! We'll have to go see Moonrise Kingdom. Bob

Rats, Bruce Willis is in it. Many of us near Sun Valley Idaho consider him to be the devil.

He does not have a good reputation among those of us that live close to him. His reputation among many is "I am Bruce Willis. I can jump in line and also ignore laws and regulations"

I really want to see Moonrise Kingdom but it isn't playing nearby. Guess I'll wait until the DVD comes out.

There are a lot of people like Bruce then. Rule of law has been replaced by rule of "it feels good, do it" in this world.

Well I went and saw Moonrise Kingdom this afternoon. I really wanted to like it. But it fell short for me. I expected more of a quirky comedy. It just moved slow and never caught on for me.
