Noobie in Tornado alley, Wichita KS

Hi all. Real nice place you guy and gals, ( and one space alien ) have here. I have been surfing the board for a month as a guest and think it is time to get more then my feet wet ,so let me introduce myself and just jump into the deep end of the pool.

Terry my name and I’m retired out of the Air Force. I have some time on my hand and a full wood shop. I’m looking for a small camper trailer for some weekend fun at established campsites and other outdoors shows. I think a Tear will work out nicely and fit in my backyard when not being hauled around. It might even serve me well as a RC plane hauler it is modified with a removable galley.

I have a ideal sketched out on a paper plates and even a few CAD drawings. I guess best to post them to the design area and then a build log. that is if I got the Flow of thing around here right.

Ps any one have any ideals for a POP up hardshell TearDrop? not a canvus sine one.

Good Morning Terry and welcome to the forum. Us sorta locals have a gathering coming up in Sept. down your way at Crawford state park. It's in the group site and the more we get in there the merrier.
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=46551

AS far as hard sided pop ups there has been a few. There is the Winter Warrior design which is a half pop up just the back goes up. Mike is currently building the rockhopper which is one. I believe that bdosborne built a raised roof version a long time ago. and there was a metal tear that raised up about 10 yrs ago that I believe had hydraulic lifts. Of these the Winter Warriors is the easiest to build it is a hardsided version of the wild goose trailer form the late 40's early 50's.

Looking forward to what you come up with.

Thanks for the warm welcome to the board.

I looked at the list of popups, nice that Sharon' took the time to do that for the forum members. I have not seen
anything that comes close to the classic “ Teardrop Shape “ and has a popup top.

On Youtube I did see an all metal fold up one
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRuPkx2u ... re=related
It looks like the side are just one sheet of aluminum, not insulated and no galley.

Another youtuber is making a Tear and said " on top there will be a raised up ruff", it looks like it will just be a small
section of the sleeping area will popup for head room. Maybe 4’ wide by 3’ long.

Here is what i looking for. I'll start a thread in the desgine aera for options, questions and Pics.

Thanks.

Oh ya I did read about the Kansas outing. I going to make it there if I have to sleep in my mini van. ( done it many of times )

Thanks again for the warm welcome to the board

Terry

Hey Thanks Mike.

That is the teardrop I saw on the net a few years ago. I just could not remember what I was looking for when I stumbled across it.
I think it land speed records attempts and rockets cars.

On his webpage, he has a picture of another pop top teardrop. That whole teardrop lifted off a small square trailer.

Pat.

It’s a Small world but I would not want to paint it. I live just down the road. Pawnee and Scenica.

I just plan on build my camper as I got time and money. When I get closer to designing the galley I might have to look you up.
I’m interested to hear what TD users think is a good load out for a 4 day camping trip.

Hey Pat.

It’s not finished, but I still going camping this weekend. With the nice weather the last month It been a toss up between going RC flying or working on the camper. Are you going to Crawford state park too?

Any offers on your house by the way?
