Greetings from San Diego

Postby adventurelad » Wed Jul 11, 2012 2:32 pm

Been lurking around these forums for the last few days, and I figured that since my Northern Tool 5x8 trailer just shipped this morning it was time to say hello! By way of background, my wife and I have been tent camping for years and have been considering pop-up trailers, combi vans, etc., but decided to build our own teardrop. We've done plenty of work on our houses by ourselves (full kitchen last year!) so am pretty comfortable with building 'stuff', and I work for a yacht design company as a designer / engineer, so am resisting the urge to do any analysis on such a small project :) . I done a basic layout (in Autocad) that I will post over in the appropriate area, and I'm sure I'll have a ton of questions as I get into it. Basically looking like a 5 x 8 1/2 with my own profile...the 8 1/2 is so I can have a full queen matress, but also a sink, stove and cooler (or future fridge / ice box).

Anyway, awesome forum, tons of great information here. Keep up the good work!!

Welcome Ryon. I moved to Baltimore from San Diego 9 years ago and miss it terribly. I'm sure you already know it, but you are so blessed to live in such a beautiful place.
You have stumbled onto a wonderful site here, and anything you need in the way of information, advice, encouragement, whatever, you will find it in spades here.
We are looking forward to seeing what you build. Be sure to post plenty of pictures because we love them and we all learn from them.
Good luck and happy camping!!
Life is sooooo good.........

Thanks Becky...you are right on all counts, San Diego is a pretty fantastic place to live / work / play, and this site is full of good information!

I posted some Autocad drawings of where I am headed, I think in the right place, but still working out exactly how everything is organized here :?

Hi Ryon, welcome to the wonderful world of teardropping. It's too late, you can't turn back now. I am sure you have a lot of builder questions, just like most of of did, and we are here to help. If you want to take a leisurely drive 75 miles north on the I-15, you are invited to swing on by my place in Wildomar. My 3 tears are always open for inspection, and remember, the coffee is always on.
8) :D  Roly, the li'l ol' woody TD guy, and proud of it.

Roly-

Yup, definetly addicted, and I haven't even started building yet...up 'til 11:30 every night this week refining the design. :goodnight:

But I think I am close enough that I am going to start building the floor this weekend! So the insanity has begun.

Thanks for the offer to come north, might take you up on it at some point! I looked at some of your pics and the woodwork is fantastic!!
