Forgot to mention, I don't have a bike anymore, but I still have the plate. It's in my work truck. The little handle now has a long cord tied to it. If I deliver to a place that requires a gate code, but I can't get it to open, I heave my plate over the fence on top of the sensor loop on the exit lane. It's the "Master key" for security gates
If it doesn't work, I just reel it in by the cord.

I used to drive a 150cc Scooter on my way to work at 4am. After a couple weeks of this commute I learned which intersections would give me problems and the best solution I could come up with was to flip the kickstand down, run over to the sidewalk and push the crosswalk signal button going the direction I wished to travel. You should have seen the looks I got when someone pulled up just as I was running back to the bike to beat the light turning red again.

My big bike sets off the loops but my V-Strom doesn't. I think it sits too high for the lights to pick it up. If you can see where the loop is cut into the road surface, stop so you can put down your kick stand right on it. Works for me( after remembering to put the bike in neutral first). TN has an ordinance that states you can go through if you have set through a cycle and the roadway is clear. We have in posted on the door at our shop.

HB1054/SB1200 - "Stop Light Bill" - A new state law allows motorcyclists to "proceed when it is safe to do so" through traffic signals which have 'mal-functioning vehicle detection devices'. The legislation was intended to allow bikers to treat traffic signals with defective "ground loop" detectors as four way stops, not "run red lights" as the national press portrayed. An amendment was added which states that, if a signal does not have a defective detection device, you can not use the law as a defense. After passing both the House and Senate by a large margin the Governor signed this into law. It became effective 1 July 2003.
