New from MI

Postby Draco » Wed Jul 11, 2012 7:27 pm

Hi everyone. I guess we are all here for the same reason. I feel pretty comfortable with being able to build a teardrop once I have a frame. I have a welder and can weld a little but not good enough that I will trust making my own frame. I am looking for a frame that will do a queen size that is inexpensive like the Harbor Freight one. If anyone has any ideas where to look that would be great.

I am also a backpacker and spend a lot of time hiking. But the wife is not a tent kind of person. So I was hoping this would give her the comfort to allow us to get out in the woods in style. Teardrops seem like the best choice to me because because we don't have big powerful cars and we could tow one with no problem. Plus a teardrop seems like a great mobile shelter for when the zombie apocalypse happens.

Welcome from just south of the border, (we can see Michigan at the end of our street). Teardrops can be as simple or elaborate as you wish. We have a 6X10 with a Queen size bed and lots of room.
http://www.redtrailers.com is one company and Tractor Supply also has small trailers that are better quality than HF. you might also look for snowmobile trailers many of which are aluminum. Oh and by the way congratulations on knowing your own level of competence in welding :D

What do you plan on as a tow vehicle?

I will also suggest coming to a Tearjerker gathering and seeing what folks have.

Thanks for the welcome. I have a PT Cruiser so I have to keep it pretty light. I was looking a craig's list but have not found a deal yet.

Welcome and as said before, check out the Tear Jerkers. We are a great group of people who enjoy camping and doing things together.
We have a crawl across the UP early in August and a weekend at Yankee Springs the last weekend of September.
Karl plans a gathering in HELL Mi each February.
You can camp in whatever you want or just stop in anytime and you'll see what others have done.
Have a great time with your build project. Can't wait to see the pics.
