Cutting Steel

Anything to do with mechanical, construction etc

Yep, that's the HF one. I am using the blade that came with it. I don't figure I have much steel to cut, but seeing how much fun it is to use, that could change.

The steel cutter arived today...!

Installed the blade and made the first cut in less than 10 minutes. I am impressed with how quickly it cuts 1x1x1/1/8 angle iron. Also made a cut in 1x1/4 aluminum very cleanly. The 90's are 90 and the 45's are 45's, quick, clean and burr free. I couldn't be more impressed.

Hated to put it away but it's cold and windy outside and I was running out of scrap to test cut..........

Larwyn,

I assume that you are talking about a Triton steel cutter, since I think you already had a port-a-band... You like it "THAT" much, eh?

On an unrelated subject, how is your teardrop coming... we need a new picture for your hall of fame shot... ;)

Mike,

Yep, the Triton Steel Cutter is what I was talking about. And I am that impressed, it will only cut 90's and 45's and nothing over 2 inch stock, but what it will do it does very well. I can cut almost any angle with the portaband, they just seldom come out all that close to the angle I was attempting. The Triton uses a carbide steel cutting blade so you get to miss out on all the heat and mess created by the abrasive disk cutters, a thiner kerf, and no burring. What mess this saw does make is "mostly" collected in a littel drawer in the back of the saw, not all over your shop.

I'll try to get more current pictures of the Escape Pod soon. Haven't had much time to work on it lately but has come a ways since the last pics. May have to roll up one of the sides of the shop so I can get far enough away to get a shot of it.......

Paul,

Thanks for the lead on this saw.

I'm purty slow about posting pictures so the "race" will not be too exhausting..........

As you know I have bought a couple of other Triton tools in the last few weeks. Namely the Super Jaws and the Multi Stand. They are both outstanding tools for their purpose. One very clever feature of these two tools that they do not even bother to mention in their ads is the fact that, besides folding compactly for storage, they will still stand on their own three feet even when folded. All other folding stands I have, require that you lean them against somthing or lay them flat. This allows the Tritons to store as compactly as they fold. The design and development are top of the line in my opinion.

Hey neighbor..!

Bloodletting is very difficult to accomplish with this tool. You are welcome to come by and have a look at it if you want. Just be warned, you'll probably end up buying one....... :)

Yea thats what I'm afraid of. My aluminum will be here next week and it sounds like I need one of those. I've got a porta-band but that sounds sweet.
