The problem is that a 1000 lb trailer will barely make 3500 lb springs flex at all, so you would have virtually no suspension. So everything inside will get thrown around, the body will get a terrible pounding and each time you drive over a bump, the trailer will go into low earth orbit for 10 seconds.

A 1000 lb trailer on 2000 lb springs is OK, but after that the overkill is actually bad news.

I know you've decided not to use this axle - but I just had to get that lot off my chest.....

I wouldn't have asked for opinions if I didn't want them.

Your point about the rating being too high for the trailer is certainly one I hadn't considered. Although, I suppose it's possible to remove a leaf or two to lower that.
