I can't figure out how to install these door locks.

I can't figure out how to install these door locks. I made the cutouts based on the shape and size of the doorlocks. But when I go to slide them in, the keyshaft is in the way.

Am I supposed to take these things apart?

It sure looks like the inner mech and outer handle need to be separated to get them to slide in. Does it look like it can easily be disassembled?

I installed the same lock in my door - a modified used RV door. It is taking me so long to build my tear (1 1/2 years) that I can hardly remember, but, I think they come apart and fit rather easily if you have the hole right. I believe I had to wiggle the lock set around and it fit after a slight reposition. I would lock the little deadbolt when on the road as my door came open a at stop sign on my first trip out. The locks work good - the keys are a little touchy at times.

Mike I took the lock apart the silver backing plate the latch has a spring. So watch that it doesn't go flying. Take the stripped down body and I had to dremil out a little at a time till it sit flush. Then I reassembled the latch take care with the deadbolt linkage if you have that. Also the deadbolt is in two parts and keyed. Have someone hold the latch and spring in place and the deadbolt linkage then slip the backing plate on and move fingers (putty knife) than apply screws. Good luck. Two people make it easier95677956769349995405

Mike - I had the same issue installing these locks. What I did was enlarge the opening for the main body a little at a time in the area of the shaft. Just make sure you don't get the hole too big where it won't be covered by the outer flange.

Is that how the factories in Indiana do it? You know, where they build RV's...

Mike -

What I did was take a rasp/file and shaved down the area around the interference between the lockset shaft and opening. I did have to use a little force to get the lockset in place. There is a little "slop" with the extra clearance around the lockset, but once you tighten the four screws on the lockset and the screws on the plate that covers the lockset and striker, it doesn't move at all. I did use a little latex sealant in addition to the rubber gasket for the lockset and have had no leaks to date.

Take care,

I cut the little piece of skin off, and made the hole a little bigger in the area of the keyshaft, and then it went together easily.

I hadn't decided if I was going to cover the area that I cut out, but after seeing how Tom did it, I may do the same thing.

Thanks guys!
