First Coleman Stove and a Lantern ?

I have fired up my first Coleman stove. Even got a little gas on the hands as I tried to put some gas in the tank. Lit right up so I am a happy camper. Any advice on maintance.

Yeah I know Becky and I am am even thinking about a Coleman fuel lantern, heaven forbid.

So at dinner I pitch the idea of hey let's look up Coleman lanterns and see if we can find one. Twin B bolt from the table runs downstairs come upstairs with a green box and says we have one. Pizzled I look and after we eat he takes it out to the garage and opens and revels a Coleman 220 lantern. WTFreak we have had one where did we get this. It was great grandpas and he said we could have it before he died. Wow I did not know that glass looks good pyrex. Several extra mantles and a filler filter funnell (say that 3 times fast)

Now you're really set up Forrest! Very cool to have a family lantern. Looks like great grandpa was a handy fellow, that's a neat lantern case

Yeah its an awesome case. Even found instructions for a Coleman stove. I asked the kids if we had one and they said no. Not sure how long the spare mantles are good for but there are about 6 packs of spares. Do these have a shelf life.

Shelf life for mantles is almost indefinite Forrest. I've used ones that were from the 40s. The older ones work real nice. You're all set!

Are you kidding Slow I had gas on my hands a 9 year old waving around lit burn sticks. I could of lost some hair on my hands heaven forbid.


Update. Looked at the bottom oif the lantern and it was manufactured in in 1969. Its a 220f serial number 228f

I did not plan on this lantern to come into my life. Yet it has and ireally had no plans for it in my build and to be honest not happy with my storage in my trailer.

The lantern in its box will not fit anywhere in the galley. I could put it in the sleeping area but just dont want to do that. Could find some way of in the tongue box but afraid it could get broken there.

I saw where Becky built a nice bracket for her lanterns and fuel and think maybe something like that under the sink I think it will fit under there.

Here is a question. Where do you keep your lantern when traveling?

Well i put the lantern under the sink.
I found i need to probally reclace the mantles. i did find out the match holes to light a lantern are too small for my flame stick but hey they got lit. big whoosh and then lit. i am thinking my file that a little more just to make sure it will get up there.
What is a good indication that a lantern needs to have the generator taken apart to be cleaned. it had alot of spits it seemed. or is this normal. its been negelcted and had to use channel locks to break the valve over and then it worked fine.

I would like to thank Steve (woodbutcher) for helping me get this lamp up and running. I did find out that i will need a new filler gasket. Was not holding pressure I even tried to set the light up on fire there for a bit. Always have a fire extinguisher around, just saying. THanks to Wolfgang for helping me with the gasket. It was a fun experience.

Congrats on both Colemans Forrest! I cheat and use a milk crate with cardboard dividers and it ride in the truck when we go, fuel rides in back with firewood, if it leaks logs will burn better .

Well some fuel spilt in the galley not fun and I did put the one gallon can in a cargo net under the sink.

I also have had a previously opened can of CF start to leak. Lesson is to make dang sure cap is tight. If something holed the can might look into some of those fuel bottles back packers use. I have 2 and those now live ( mostly ) in the TD and if I think I may need a whole can it goes in the TD which works for me as I travel solo.
