New guy from FLA

Howdy,

I am a tent camper who is married to a lovely woman who no longer wants to sleep on the ground. She found this site while dreaming up a fantastic homemade travel trailer. We will be building this one together. I have been reading over so many great posts of different builds. This is a great site. We have not decided on what style trailer we are going to build, but we have started working on drawings and focusing ideas. I look forward to learning as much as I can and contributing where I can.

Welcome Doon!! We're very happy you found us. Us girls seem to really be attracted to teardrops. It must be the "cute" factor.

Where in Florida are you from?? My family is in Sarasota. (My husband and I used to live there as well.) We plan to do a fair amount of camping in your beautiful state and will eventually retire there. Maybe our paths will cross at some point.

Cruising the hall of fame and the galley gallery will give you so many wonderful ideas, and there are threads in the design and construction section to help you through every facet of your build. Check the design resources at the top of the page. There are lots of profiles and designs there, as well as the free Generic Benroy plans, which can be used with any profile and will give you the general "lay of the land" as far as the steps in constructing a teardrop. While most of us deviate off the plans at some point and use our own ideas, it is a great place to start. And if you can't find what you are looking for, just ask a question and someone (usually several someones) will be happy to chime in and point you in the right direction.

This is by far the most fun, creative and rewarding project I have ever undertaken. I can't wait to get camping, but I think I will actually miss the building process once it is done. Part of what has made it so fun is this forum. The exchange of ideas, the encouragement and inspiration. People here are just plain nice and by the time you are done you will feel like you have made a lot of new friends.

Good luck. We're looking forward to seeing YOUR build thread.
Life is sooooo good.........

We live about 30 minutes south of Sarasota, in Punta Gorda.

I am a bit overwhelmed after looking over build journals and at the Hall of Fame. Wow there are some nice trailers on this site.
We are starting with some drawings as we continue to look for a trailer frame.
Thanks for the warm welcome.
