Excellent. Thanks for the detailed shots of the interior and the external graphics. I know that kind of stuff takes time. Much appreciated. I see from the photos that you are already in the process of tearing down the fenders and such. What's the plan there? Just cleaning it up a bit?

Having seen the interior of an original 55', I'm not sure about reproducing it for mine. Seems a bit too basic for the needs of my modern wife. I'll have to sleep on it and see how I feel when it comes time to build mine.

I have the original door latches and door handles, it's that galley hatch that eludes me. I doubt I'll find a matching one for my galley, but a boy can dream.

Speaking of the galley - I see you napped some shots of that too. Looks cool! Is that wooden slide out bar for a table? I think that plaid wall covering will look nice in moderation. Maybe on the font and back walls, but do the sides in a complementary solid color? Maybe that taupe (beige) color from the base color in the plaid? I think if you use too much it might end up looking like the inside of an old golf bag.

Oh, with respect to patching those holes from the Jerry can - maybe get some round head aluminum rivets from aircraft spruce and use those to plug the holes. Have someone help buck them from the inside. Seal them with some of that aluminum goop from Vintage Trailer Supply. Maybe they will look more natural than a stainless stove bolt? Worth a shot. Might just blend right in with the aluminum skins and give it that aircraft look.

Original galley countertop.

You asked about the plan. I will never get around to restoring this before my kids are too big so....I decided to do:
1. a spring over conversion,
2. repack bearings,
3. clean up fenders and move down to match the axle drop,
4. make new hatch,
5. reinforce frame at front end and install stabilizers (maybe. I may just carry a couple trailer jacks.),
6. general clean-up and use!!!

That's the general plan anyway.

Just remembered I need to make sure the wiring will work. Oh, crap, and I still need to register it too. Hoping to keep the old black plate.

I like it. In fact, I'll go one step further. Turns out that the holes are perfect for mounting a flat screen tv bracket. So...we're going to install a 57" plasma tv in there for the kids. You know, good wholesome outdoor time.

I'm thinking that the hatch door latch was just like the side doors. Here's a detail shot for you. Notice that the catch is right-of-center by 1". The hole in the bottom of the hatch aluminum is centered.

Ted and Steve- I am enjoying your photos, and am amazed at the many identical features that are incorporated into my '59 King Richards. Steve, your interior
shots, door handles, icebox and galley are almost carbon copies! It appears that someone at KR recognized the weakness in the galley hatch construction, and did make a change for the better in that area. Here's a photo of my clone of the original KR galley skeleton.

Cool! I have not seen a KR in person or many pics for that matter. That is amazing.
Looks like the ribs are stacked ply? Way beefier than the BR.

BTW Ted, I was looking at the door hatch more closely and I'm almost certain that the rear hatch used the same hardware. Notice the offset.

Cool build and cool business. I also have a love for Coleman stuff. Scored a killer red metal cooler with tray a few months ago, pristine, for $40. I drove home with a smile from ear to ear.

Let's hope this Benroy is easier to pull than the last one I had.

I almost thought you were serious. Then I did the math, 48" - 57" = -9.
