that would be under or near 1000 lbs ? Would a tandem axle allow me to pull more weight?

My TV is a 4 cyl. 1.6L Sentra.

They have some 4 x 6 trailers at Harbor Freight $198 you could make into a mini tear drop & that would work.....

However I say for $28k you can get a new 2012 4X4 Tundra limited Crewmax
and that will take you everywhere and back :lol:

I do not think that you could go any bigger than a 5x8, maybe something the size of the smaller U-Haul trailer. I think that my Lark 6x10 has a curb weight of about 900 lbs, empty.

I think that someone had a thread about a small trailer made out of polyethylene that was really light, I seem to remember that the the manufacturer is in Atlanta, GA.

If you are into rolling your own, I would check out the plans for the foamies, and some of the other really light builds. Good Luck!

with a 4cyl, I don't see how an extra axle with help, it may just add more weight than help. :thinking:

I built a 5 x 10 extra height trailer. Check my build out. ;)

I would suggest 4 or 5 foot wide and 8 foot length in your case, and then keep it as simple (light) as possible inside. :thumbsup:

I have found that a V nose will help with the 4cyl. with pulling. :baby:

Be sure to check your owners manual for your cars weight, and towing/cargo limits. :vroom:

Have you checked the manufacturer's spec for maximum towing capacity? That will give you a good idea of what you can pull with that small car.

Be wary of small vehicles with high towing capacity ratings, often while the chassis and suspension is adequate the cooling system isn't and either the transmission or engine will overheat under high-load conditions (long uphill grades in hot weather).

well you will see when your 1.6 gets too hot :D :D
I would bet that your car does not even allow towing ??
The lower you keep it, the better

as an Oracle ...you should be able to see that :shock:

Your original post didn't state what your plans / goals are for your cargo conversion, but you will be limited by what you can safely tow. If you are creative with your conversion and you don't need to camp more than one or two people at the most you could probably make something like this work http://www.haulmark.com/userfiles/HM_PPT4_spec%281%29.pdf. The V-nose gives you 7' of interior length and the empty weight is only 660 lbs. That would allow you several hundred pounds of conversion materials and still keep you under 1,000 lbs which is probably the most you could pull with your Sentra. The V-nose might also help with the towing. As previous posts stated you should also look into additional cooling for your engine, oil, and transmission.
If you do some additional searching you may be able to find a 4'x8' that would work. I doubt you could go much larger than a 4'x8' though. Good luck and let us know what you decide. :)

Notwithstanding all the 'good advice', I am seventy-five, and have neither the energy or skills required to build anything. :oops: I thought this was conveyed in previous posts? :o I posted on the 'conversion' forum to see if there was anything available [to purchase] that could be pulled with my Sentra. Honestly your tow vehicle is just to small to pull a cargo trailer period.. A teardrop trailer would be your only option and even then thats a VERY small motor to be pulling even one of those.. The weight adds up pretty quick and you what a little room to be safe.. As in even if your Tow vehicle is rated for 1000lb you don't want a trailer that heavy.. At most you would be looking for something around 800lb loaded and something that wasnt much taller or wider then the car.
There isn't many companies that make cargo trailer campers. Most on here build their own from cargo trailers. I would also venture to say that probably 98% of the trailers on here are above 1500 loaded.

Another option for you is to look at is camper trailers for motorcycles. There are several out there with different options up to and including AC. Most are a popup tent style. Some are small but some are also quite roomy that sleep 2 easily. Hope you find what will fit your needs and functional enough for you. Good luck. :thumbsup:
