You'll have trouble getting anyone to fill a tank that old. There are horizontal tanks out there but they're not cheap:

If you find one, just put a new valve on it, then you shouldn't have any problems getting it filled. ;)

The horizontal tanks can't be fitted with the OPD (overfill prevention device) valves. They are exempt for this reason. Given the lack of knowledge out there, you may find folks that are unaware of this and they may refuse to fill horizontal tanks in spite of the fact it is legal to do so.

Cheers,

Gus

Folks, ya'll are making valid points. I threw the question out there on the Plumbing and Propane thread if anyone is actively using and filling their horizontal tanks. It'll be interesting to hear more feedback. If you're curious, watch that thread !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Old horizontal propane tanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks again :)

I didn't realize that Gus. Knowing of friends that have then on their teardrops, I just assumed that they changed the valve. I do know that they fill them at a Propane Dealer and not your corner gas station.
