I find what the admins are doing to be much more offensive than Gage's harmless comments.

Only hateful and profane comments should be removed, and they should be footnoted that they were removed, not just disappear.

I doubt I'll contribute much more to this forum.

Years ago, before many of you had joined, Gage had agreed to a set of standards for his conduct in order to be allowed back on the forum. This was after a period of being banned for a number of issues. He knows what he agreed to. Since he is unable to police himself and live up to his agreement, others have had to do it for him. Sorry you chose to leave.

 Darn, we agree on something. :shake hands: My comments were only my opinion and nothing more. I too plan on posting less. That'll most likely make a lot of board members happy, and a couple of admins.

That's a nice trailer. If you don't mind me asking what does that big girl weigh?
I also like the layout inside, it would not be bad for a couple. I don't think I would want 8 kids in it...lol
Also I really like the idea of a refer compartment...That's thinking.

lol I guess everyone looks at size and camping different. I grew up in the RV business and a pop up, truck camper or a 20 foot trailer were all considered small.. Maybe not tiny.. But small. I know I'm sorta of a black sheep over on the cargo trailer conversion section cause my trailer is 24'. Lot of people on here think its huge.. For us to buy a toyhauler with a 20' garage that we needed would have cost us atleast twice as much. Been atleast 6 foot longer and several thousand pounds heavier... So I built my own and shared my build on here. To me this forum is about people either building their on camper to suite Their needs. Or about people trying to make due with a little bit smaller camper then the average RVer..

Everyone has their opinion on whats overboard or whats to basic.. I myself have several friends with 30+ foot fifth wheel toyhaulers that cost 40k plus and stick 6 foot above their diesel trucks. They also have DRY weights of 12k+.. I honestly think thats a bit much to go camping and 4 wheeling for a few days or even a week up in the mountains.. At some point you wonder why they don't just rent cabins or hotel rooms.. It would be cheaper and easier for them in almost every way. And with most of these massive decked out trailers your really not camping to me..
At the same time I think people with trailers they can't even stand up in, have no water storage no living space and no bathroom are worse off then most tent campers.. Thats just me.. I don't like getting dressed laying down. And I don't hang out in my bed at home so I have no want to do it on a rainy day during a camping trip. I see people with teardrops but then they have easy ups, tarps, DIY cobbled together awnings, ect. It just seems more work and hassle then just setting up a nice tent..

I fall somewhere in the middle. I 100% understand others sit at different levels.. I see no reason to knock anyone for them camping the way they want. Some people seem to think camping is a contest to see who can do with out the most. I know a couple guys that got camping out west with nothing but a few supplies and sleeping bag and their horse. Bam they beat everyone of us cause we use cars a trucks and roofs.. Now the contest is over lets camp...

Win nice camper and if your over this way at Road Atl give a hollar. Me I like all campers from big to small just as long as people that own them enjoy them and let me enjoy the 3 I have. I will keep my tear I have and we will get rid of our other 2 this year but thats so we can pick up a 16 to 18'. But thats so my nieces and nephew can go camping with us and I can keep an eye on them at night. Sometimes your life requires a lil bit larger camper to fit all the people who want to camp with you to enjoy themselves.

Cliff

PS: If you don't contribute or comment then how do we know what you think? And Gage nothing you say bothers me because I know its your opinion and just take with a grain of salt, but I'm always glad to see you posting so I know your still around and not in a hospital!

Hospital, did you say hospital? I got to thinking, I've spent more time in the hospital this year than I have at gatherings. :( Must be that 'E' ticket ride I get to the hospital that does it for me. ;) Right now I'm doing OK, not great but ok. My lungs arn't getting any better but I'm dealing with it.

Re: Bought a stand up

Postby wincrasher » Mon Aug 13, 2012 7:05 am

Took my first trip with my new trailer. Went to a lovely campground near Linville on the Blue Ridge Parkway. I think my loaded weight is around 4200lbs, as my Suburban really struggled up 226. It was VERY steep - should have ignored my GPS and went the way I knew to go.

When I got to camp, they told me there was a better space due to a no-show. Of course I pull in and it's next to giant diesel motorcoaches with their generators clambering away. Course nobody is outside. So I look around and go down near where the tent campers are. What a fun group they were, and of course no generators. I was able to go all weekend on my batteries except for about 30 mins with my Yamaha - gotta have my coffee in the AM. Sadly it's my only device that needs juice - wish there was a better alternative. I may get an inverter - the single serve brewer I have is only 500watts.

Trailer checked out great. Nothing broken or malfunctioned. Spent most of the weekend organizing things and putting stuff together. Boy was it nice to have your own hot shower and potty. Didn't need AC, as it was in the 60's by dark. Didn't even need to run the fantastik fan either since it was so cool. Btw, there was a nice couple there with a T@B. it was really cool and alot of the tent campers were admiring it. They also liked my campfire in a can- several stopped by to inquire about it.

I did change out all my interior lights for LED. They are pretty bright, about 200 lumens, but no match for the incandescents - left a couple as reading lights and the one over the mirror in the bath. I came away from the weekend with a couple projects to do - I need a better grill - the one I have is just sad - and I need to install a few 12v outlets, as there are zero!

We don't use the percolator any more, we went to Starbucks Via. Tasts great and you just need to add boiling water.

We heat the water on the propane stove so we don't usually need the generator when we camp.
