Airline storage bins?

I was recently on a trip and started to think about storage in cargo trailer conversions. Since most of the conversions put the majority of stuff against the walls with a walkway between, has anyone created storage similar to that on an airplane over the seats. In my case, I am thinking about 1 foot tall, and 1ft deep on both sides. My roof is rounded, rather than flat and it would also help square off the ceiling to some extent. I am thinking for storing light stuff such as tents, sleeping bags, clothing, etc.

I am already trying to collect ideas for the next phase of construction- haven't even been able to try out the first.

I will have some storage like you are mentioning. My original concept was to have it on both sides. It is still an option if I think I need it after I get that far in my build. Storage compartments are good!! When it comes to camping either in a tent, TT or soon to be toyhauler CT, my OCD kicks in for keeping a clean organized camp site. My wife thinks I'm more than a little about it. I hate with a passion looking for something that is not where it's supposed to be. Plenty of storage gives things a home.

I say go for it, build it the way you want and dream. Always love to see ideas that we can pay homage to other builders by incorporating them in our builds.

I plan to install some stock cabinets that you can find at Lowe's and Home Depot among other places. The ones that I'm looking at are 12" deep by 12" tall. You can purchase them in various lengths. I'm looking at one 36" to go on the back wall next to the window a/c unit and a 30" unit on the front wall above the counter. My roof has a slight curve to it as well. I'm thinking I may be able to store some blankets or maybe a pillow on top of the cabinet.

I may change my plans when I get to that point, but right now that is my plan. I' be watching to see what you decide to go with.

The GT I ordered, now cancled I had the windows lowered one so I could sit downand see out two so I could place cabinets over them on the wall.
one of the things I dislike about most factory built campers is the lack of space most have enought for a long weekend
but not enought when you want to spend a couple of months in one.
so go for it you will find a lot of use for them let us know how it works out for you.

take a look at the last picture in post #454. This is a Sprinter based camper conversion and not a cargo trailer but the idea of the cabinets is similar to what you are thinking abuot (I believe). I've looked at this sprinter forum a few times and some of the workmanship and ideas are simlar to what is posted in the cargo trailer conversion forum on TNTTT.

Thanks, sportxlh, the kinks definitely gave me some ideas. I wonder what they are using for framing? It appears to be a modular aluminum edging. I have been toying with rounded fronts with roll-front type doors- nothing like over-reaching.

The overhead units in the second link use 80/20 aluminum framing. if you scroll back earlier in the sprinter owners build journal, there is some information on how he built the cabinets and why he used the 80/20 aluminum on both the overhead and base cabinets: he actually uses the stuff to help secure is bicycles and dirt bike when those travel inside the sprinter. To me, the 80/20 set-up looks like a giant erector set.
