Camper numbers

Postby Hillmann » Thu Aug 16, 2012 10:38 am

I am sure most people here know about the club numbers on airstreams. When you see a number on an airstream on the road you can look it up in the club directory and find out who owns it and where they live.

Could something similar be done here?
On airstreams the numbers go on the front of the trailer so on coming traffic can read them. That wouldn't work with a teardrop because for the most part the trailer doesn't stick up above the tow vehicle but the numbers could be put on the front driver side of the camper that way the number can be seen by oncoming traffic and when being passed. Although there may be many people who would be unwilling to put numbers on there trailer.

The numbers could then be listed on TnTTT with a link to the owners profile. That way when you see a fellow teardrop or small camper you can look them up on your smartphone and find out who they are.

So what do others think of the idea?

That is a cool idea. I like the fact you can call out a number and the owner would know you saw them

No thanks, not anymore. with the ease of computor data bases being hacked, trifled with et al, I'm not a fan of making it any easier for the predators in our societies to get up to no good. No offence but each to their own. Nomex donned .....

Hillman,

I understand what you are trying to start and there is a simpliar solution. Just post your "user name" on the side of your tear or trailer. What ever information you are willing to give out is already on this forum for all to see. Being a non-member only means you can't post on most forums. Anyone who does not want information out there has already deleted it and anyone who does not have a concern has put what they are comfortable with by their icon and in their profile. Each to their own.

I like the idea but as a solo female camper I am not about to make it any easier to be identified. I'd cover my license plate if I could.

I belong to a camping club we have numbers assigned to us when we join some have used those numbers on their license plates
I'm also a ham radio operator I use to have my call sign on my van's plate I sold the van and did not transfer the plates because the truck and car already had plates.
while we all love this site and the Great work Mike has put into making and keeping it great I doubt if there are a heck of a lot of people other than us who would know what a TNTTT number would mean and where to find out; having said that If we were to have numbers the members would have to agree to having their numbers listed along with other information.
so with the spirit of TNTTT members being one that likes to do our own thing camp where we want be it state parks, private campgrounds, wal-mart, or somewhere out in the boonies I'll go with not having numbers.

Having encountered only one teardrop in our 3000+ mile trip, numbers seem kind of pointless, and I will agree with previous posts risky. Ohio gives you a car registration with no home address to put in the car.

I will pass. I am already not a fan of my license plate and registration that goes on the front windshield giving the county I live in.

The kids put my user name on the side of the trailer I may take it off. A lot of ham radio operators have their addresses on the national data base that would scare me.

My sister moved into a new house and we wanted to see where it was without her telling us so we had her take a pic out her back porch. Well using google earth and some of the features geograph like a lake and a hill we determined what streer. Jumped in the car and yeap we found her house no problem. I always blur out licence plates and house numbers and street pist when I post.

Sisters On The Fly are all solo female campers, they have their Sister #'s prominently displayed on their trailers and since they've been around for years and are still doing it, I would venture to say it hasn't presented them with any problems. It's just a number, and unless you are a member of the group and were looking for it, I doubt anyone would even notice it or question what it was.

That being said, I belong to several teardrop forums and my user name is different on all of them, and I also belong to other groups where I have membership numbers and such. If I were to start tagging things with all these names and numbers it would probably start to look like my whole life was under graffiti attack.

With all the pictures we post here and how closely we all follow each other's builds and threads, I would venture to say that most of us would recognize each other's campers out in the wild without any further identifying information.
