Newbies from Menifee (Southern CA)

Postby EvandTerry » Mon Aug 13, 2012 1:37 pm

Hello Tear Droppers! We just purchased our first little guy. It's a 2012 Silver Shadow, 5'x8'-- our maiden voyage was this past weekend. We went to the rally at Hurkey Creek, CA. Anybody else on here attend? What a great introduction to Tear Drop camping that was! We understand there were 68 tiny trailers, and wow, the rigs were all so great. And so were the people! Met a bunch of friendly, nice folks. We'd been tent camping, but the Tear Drop is a first for us. Now we're looking in this forum for ideas and checking out maps to figure out where to go next. Lucky us to be retired, so we can look forward to fun times ahead with no time restrictions. Yippee!

Welcome aboard. I couldn't make it to Hurkey Creek because of health reasons. Like you say, being retired is a plus. We've been clear back to the East Coast twice with our teardrop, just taking our time and enjoying the sites. We've got a gathering coming up in Oct at Lake Skinner. It probably won't be as big as Hurkey Creek but just as much fun. And what the heck, that's right in your backyard. You can get more information HERE. Hope to see you there.

Hi Eva and Terry, welcome to the forum. Hmmm, Menifee, I think that is just about 3 miles south of me, here in Wildomar. I am inviting you to swing on by my place, at "The Farm" which is just off of Bundy Canyon, 1/2 way between the I-15 and I-215. I have a couple of tears, right here in the driveway, and am always anxious to share any TD experiences that you might be interested in. Good for you, getting a Little Guy. I envy aluminum teardrops, since they won't turn into cornflakes in the rain, like my woodys could. Hope to hear from you, just PM me and perhaps we can share a cup of coffee, while spinning teardrop lies. Do plan to make the Lake Skinner Gathering, as Gage suggested, since it is only 20 minutes from your place. (due East and at 1500 ft in a secluded valley)
:D 8) Roly Nelson, the li'l ol' So Cal woody teardrop guy and lover of a fresh cup of coffee with new friends.

Thank you, Gage and Roly, for the nice notes. Yes, Roly, we're neighbors! We'd love to take you up on your coffee offer, so we'll give you a heads up when we're going to be in your vicinity, so we can meet and swap stories and see in person the creative stuff we admired in your gallery. Do you know your reputation preceded your note? When we were at Hurkey, we met Ed (with an assortment of antiquated stuff for sale), and also an interesting character in overall's with one strap unhitched and a snake (fake) wrapped around one arm - I think his name was Robert. Anyway, one or the other or both said you were supposed to be there, and they were sorry you couldn't make it. We aren't sure we can get to Skinner due to schedule conflicts, but we'll try...

Ev and Terry, looking forward to meeting you. By the way, as soon as this hot weather is over, I will be heading over to Lake Skinner for a Sat night camp over. There are always a lot of camping friends there that I haven't met yet. This 4 bedroom house gets pretty empty living alone, so my teardrop is my escape module. Perhaps we can go there together sometime in the near future. Let me know what works for you, and we'll make it happen. I am sure Robert, (what a character, huh) would like to come along. Worth thinking about.
8) ;) Roly
