Camping and Geocaching

Postby SmokeyBob » Mon Aug 20, 2012 1:20 pm

For the members in this forum who do geocaching.

About a year ago Judith and I took up a new hobby called Geocaching. Now when we go camping we also look for caches. Every year in this area they have a picnic for geocachers. It's at a different park each year. This year it was heald it Black Hoof Park at Lake Lenexa, Lenexa, KS. There must have been 200 + people at this event. Food was great but they can't touch LCG.

We do the geocaching thing all the time. We have a 1973 class B van conversion. One of our goals is to find a geocache in every Texas County (there are 254) and visit the County Courthouse. We have 28 counties left to go.

We camp and Geocache all the time. In fact we hide one in our favorite State park that we like to camp in. Learned about it at a TT&T rally in 2009. :D In fact I made a sign with our Geocaching name that we place at the pole in the camp site, and have had people stop and ask if we are the cachers that hide the cache in the park.

Camping and geocaching go hand in hand. Currently I am in Copper Harbor, Michigan enjoying both activities!

Geocaching is a great way to find the wonderful hidden gem parks, unique roadside artwork, and walks in the woods.

Number one tip: find the oldest caches over new ones. I better stop the rant before I get myself into trouble about the abundance of new cache trash. The worlds oldest cache is GC30 Mingo just off I 70 in western Kansas. Placed May 2000. Besides being the oldest active cache, there is nothing special about the location.
