Chris,

When you build your teardrop you are going to be the envy of most of us on the forum. Geesh, hand scraped burled elm sides, rubbed out with a hand rubbed finish... geesh. You make me look like a wood butcher.

Hey though, you know I had thought about cranking out a few teardrops that I could sell. I don't care what you say, cranking out a teardrop is a lot of work. Just look at the ultralight which I've started, and can't even get the 1st wall finished. Well, granted, I've had a few distractions... but anything handmade is going to take time and a lot of work.

(Hmmmm, hey daughter, do you want a teardrop instead of a coffee table?)

No, she wants a coffee table, which I could build, with which you could pay me with a teardrop trailer. Not a bad deal, huh?

Well, I could do that coffee table in a day... a weekend if I am taking my time... (remember those screws...? they really speed things up!)

A teardrop, on the other hand, could take from 10 weeks to 6 months... However if you are interested, PM me and we'll talk!

Hey Chris,

You could always try building furniture out of OSB. It's pretty stable!

One of our local OSB manufacturers built a huge board room table and other furniture out of the stuff. I guess it was to show people what else could be done with OSB other than sheathing.

Some of the guys in my woodturning club have made bowls out of osb beams and glued up baltic birch, looks pretty neat.

I've seen some pretty neat furniture made out of OSB, Halfdome. I've wanted to work with it a little bit, but can't find any around my area. Still pretty interesting stuff.

I tried turning a bowl from a scrap of osb beam and another from glued up baltic birch using high speed steel. It was very difficult. Most osb & baltic Birch turners use tools with removable carbide tips. When I retire I'll spend more time on the lathe like some of my friends are doing now. You can make some good money if your good at it and are creative. Check out Steves website he went full time over a year ago. Danny http://stephenhatcher.com/

Well, for any still interested.................................I pulled the weights off the table top today and she's still bowed! So I got to work and ripped er down to 4 equal strips and turned em up and down to offset the bow. I glued everything back together this morning and this evening all looks well. I'll start the planing process tomorrow. Time to get on with this table.!

Postby Guy » Wed Mar 29, 2006 12:28 am

Dear Chris,

Isn't Joinery when everyone sits around a mahogany table and smokes some pot?

Will your camera be back from the shop in time to take pictures of this table?

Just wondered...

Mike,

I called yesterday to see if it would be here in time for the Beaver's Bend trip. The answer was disappointing! The said they were working up the paperwork as we spoke and they'd ship it out today. That means no camera for the campout, but it will be here in time to photograph the table before the show. I hope!
