Leaf spring rear attachment

Postby ldychrstne » Sun Aug 26, 2012 8:07 am

Hi,
I have just completed my teardrop all but the Alum covering. I made it on a boat trailer and it handles great. My question is the front of the leaf springs are attached as I would think. Rolled front and a bushing installed. The aft is also rolled but it is not in shackles, it is installed in a u bracket without a bushing and just a bolt. There is movement there but I have never seen it done this way. I am wondering if it will be ok this way or am I setting myself up for a failure.

That's a 'slipper' spring and it's the cheaper way of mounting one end of a leaf spring that's used on most small trailers. So nothing to worry about.

Your spring set up is used on many of the small trailers by CarryOn , Red Trailer. Northern and others.

ps, I have just completed a 4x9 tear just outside or Goldsboro and yes there are several home built tears in your area.
