Following along, great looking tear.

I'm trying to plan out something similar - space for my wife and I, our 6 year old son and at least one border collie. I'm interested on the external dimensions on the camper body - how wide and long is it? I think I'm going to have to go home built frame if nothing appears on CL, can but hope. I was planning on 78/80 wide x 12 long. Is that around the same as yours?

The body is 78" wide and 13 feet long. It will be a fairly large "teardrop", but it should fit my family for many years to come.

I originally had designed it at 12 feet long, but I wanted wider beds, so that is where the extra foot came from.

I have been very busy with summer vacations and have not worked on my trailer for about 2 months now. Still have a few weeks before I get back to the trailer, but I did run across this picture I took with my cell phone of when I was test fitting the drivers side to the floor.

I have been having a hard time deciding what to put on the bottom of the trailer for protection. I was debating between epoxy and the dreaded black goo. In the end my frugal side won out and black goo it is. I used Henry's 107. It was not bad at all. It dried fairly fast and I did not get a single drop or smear on me or my clothes.

Here is the floor upside down ready for the black goo. The front drop floor section will be located under the front bunk bed. It will be used to store a spare tire and other items that I will not need very often. The second drop floor section will be where I stand inside of the trailer.



This is after the black goo was applied. I used a brush around and between the dropped floor sections. I used a smooth roller for the remaining flat sections. I used painters tape around the outside. These areas are where the walls slide on and also where fiberglass will wrap around.

I finally got the floor on the frame for the final time (I hope). Still waiting to get bolts to secure it. Also got the wheel wells attached. Now I need to fiberglass the walls and get them put on.

Nice job Dan, what have you decided to do for the bolts? Have you read TSH build from I think Norway? I like the bolts he used and the way they're reset in the the floor of his tear, just a thought bud! Keep up the good work bud!

I am going to use floorboard screws. These are commonly used to screw down deck boards on utility trailers. Due to the thickness of my floor these screws seem like the best option cost wise.

I used the same type screws. Although the ones I used had a self-drilling, self-tapping head, I pre-drilled holes through the floor and frame. They went in very easy and are very secure.
