That looks great. Nice progress. The hatch looks fantastic. What did you ever decide to do with the spindle/hub issues you were having. Did you order up a new axle and such?

Ted

Thx!
I was about to order a new axle with hubs but now I'm thinkin about just ordering new spindles and hubs and re-using the original axle. I've been overly concerned, me thinks, about maintaining originality particularly with this part. I don't think an upgraded axle will affect the value. Still researching spindles. I'll let you know what happens.

I am really enjoying this thread with the two rebuilds going on here in the Bay Area.

Is there a way to see these two TD in person?

Any plans to go to a rally say in Petaluma or maybe we can do a bay area meet & greet??

What do you guys think?

Dave, Nice chatting with you last night. If I get this thing back on it's axle this month, I will make the long 45 minute journey to P-town. Sounds fun. I would like to see your TD and Ted's as well.

Ted, what fridge/icebox are you planning on sticking in that thing?

Here is the info on the Petaluma Rally. Not sure if it is the same week as your Death Valley fun?

We should try an plan a Meet & Greet somewhere here in the Bay Area?

Lot's of place to either do a weekend of camping or a small saddle up the trailers and meet somewhere for half a day and do something???

Like a meet and greet at the USS Hornett?? Or everyone meet at Treasure Island??

Hey Dave!
Nice to meet you. ;)

I'm up for a meet and greet sometime for sure. Ideally it would be after I get mine completed or at least the skins and trim on the exterior. I really want to check out the 'original' benroy Steve has been flaunting about. ;) (I'm just jealous that his came in one piece and mine came in pieces...)

I like the idea of treasure island or something like that. Kind of a unique spot with lots of photo opportunities. Plus my brother ( a fantastic photographer ) may be able to show up and provide the camera work. I'd LOVE to make the Petaluma rally, but I just don't think it's going to happen. Maybe I can show up sans trailer just to rub elbows with the crowd.

Dave - which trailer would you be bringing?! Looking at your gallery, you have had quite a few.

Steve - regarding the icebox: My original plan was to do a restoration / rebuild of the trailer, but I quickly realized that without the icebox and or stove I would be fighting an uphill battle. I do have the original propane tank, so it's kind of a shame to not use it, but I'm actually okay with that. :) So - with that I decided to do a 'reso-mod' / rebuidl with modern touches. The exterior will be as close to original was possible. Same dimensions, profile, paint, etc. Only the interior elements will be modernized a bit. I will have cabinets front and rear, Fantastic fan, Reading lights, optima blue top group 27 battery, etc. As mine didn't come with a single speck of galley hardware, the galley won't have a sink or propane stove. I'm going to go with a vintage coleman gear instead. I picked up a really cool Red Coleman cooler to match the trailer. I also picked up two pretty neat vintage coleman stoves. A 4M and a pretty awesomely ugly 3 burner model ( I forget the number, but it's ugly) . I also scored a great deal on a fully operational 'big hat' lantern. All in all, it won't be as original as Steve's, Debrah's, or Mike's - but it's till an original Benroy, rebuilt using the original skins and parts as templates. So far, I'm proud of what I've come up with - especially based on where I started. :)

Thanks again for the invite to meet up. Keep me posted and if I'm done in time, I'll try to make Petaluma, but I will most likely just show up for the day to check out the other Tiny Campers/Teardrops. Treasure Island would be an awesome meet and greet.

Dave, thanks for the info on the P-town gathering. If I go to DV the first week in Oct, I'll miss the event. If I stay, I'll go up there for the day. I'll give you guys a heads-up and maybe we can pow wow then.

Ted, I admire your efforts man. Looking at the pics of what you started with was......well, daunting. I don't think I ever would have taken it on. Good on you man. Commendable for certain.

Here's a pic of the hatch dry fit. Ready for skin and trim.

I sold the Pop up tent trailer to a good freind and they are loving all the details that we did to it.

The Teardrop is our baby now, I wish we had side yard acess at our house, because it would have a canned ham project or two as well.

The teardrop has the garage to itself and sits on an old karistan persian rug!! I need to post some new pictures as I have added a few things.

I will look to see if any restrictions to a TI Meet & Greet, because it would be a perfect place for pictures and a day of BS.

Get the Benroys water tight..two more months!!

Hey do you know if there is a thread on East Bay Teardrops?? Or would I need to ask the moderator for that??

I also have a mint in box three burner with legs in box as well for sale or trade. Need to look at the year....it is perfect!!

Ted,
I bought a door latch from Vintage and should have purchased a hatch latch. Instead of returning it and paying shipping, I'll give you a deal if you want it. Let me know.

Ted, Steve, and Dave...You California guys are lucky to be in the "Teardrop Homeland"! Boy, would I like to attend
one of your "tech (BS) sessions, and get a look at all of your REAL vintage Benroys! These things are addicting by nature,
and I'm enjoying doing the work on mine, knowing that we're saving a little bit of history with each one! Keep up the
great info in your posts here, it's most informative. Mike

Hey Steve,

My two door latches are in excellent, yet rusty, condition. Usually not one to pass on a great deal, but I'm going to have to.

Thanks for the offer,
Ted

Ted,
Does Kim have any pics of her Benroy on this forum or other?
I looked at her profile but there was no gallery link.
Thx.

Kim Armstrong. She commented in Mike's KR thread and I thought you had mentioned her having a very original BR. Maybe I got her confused with someone else?

Steve - you have the most original Benroy I've ever seen. Deborah Kellerman has the only other Benroy I've ever mentioned. Hers is a 56.

Just the three of us, plus the person who mentioned they had one a few pages back. I'm still waiting for photos of that one. :)

Ted and Steve there is also one here in GA but I've had a hard getting in touch with Harold to get you any info or pics of it. I know his is original King Richard with the badging and info plate as I've camped with him twice but he hasn't returned any of my emails or pm's, although as this is car show season, he's probably out showing his nova wagon and the tear.

Cliff
In God we trust, shoot the rest and he will sort out!
