Got my Coleman gear home today!

So, A few weeks ago you might remember that I purchased two vintage stoves via Craigslist. The ad only had a few photos of the stoves, but they looked solid. So I sprung for $60.00 Life has a way of getting in the way, so I didn't get to go pick them up until today.

One hour drive each way and I had my loot home. The seller was the same guy I had purchased some Hop Bines from a few years ago. We got to talking about stuff and I asked if he had any old lanterns. He showed me one he had picked up a few weeks ago and hadn't had time to clean it up and try it out. I asked how much he wanted for it, he said "since you drove all the way here, and since it will be your first - you can have it. It was made in 11/1953. It needs a globe, but hey - it was free!

I brought the goods home and fired up the two stoves. They both work well. The big stove could use some cleaning - but they work!

The lantern... I cleaned it up a bit, and grabbed a lantern globe off of a newer lantern and set up a few mantels. I pumped it up, and gave it a shot. Pop.. pop... chhhhhhhhhhht!!!!

She lit!





Where can I find a new globe for this 1953 lantern? Once I get the right globe I'm going to be set!

You can get a globe that will fit at many hardware stores that have some Coleman products or order them from some of the parts suppliers for lanterns. Now, if you want the date specific type globe....you're going to have to buy one on e-bay or from one of the Coleman types out there that are selling the green etched globes. Chances are better off to just pick up another old lantern maybe a beater and rob the globe from it. Many times, you can pick up an entire lantern for much less than the price of what a good green etched globe on it's own might cost. Doug

Hey, that 3 burner is one ugly stove. I guess it will keep you off the streets a bit getting it looking good. And that is a nice 228 big hat you got there. And what looks to me a canadian stove. I have yet to find any canadians around here. I did find a British lantern in Jan.

Ha! Yeah that red one is pretty dang ugly. I wish we had an 'ugly stove' award - I'd be a shoe in.

Yeah, that's a Canadian 4m. Thanks for the kind words on the lantern. The green etched globe should be here in a few days. Then she'll be complete. I don't think I'm going to do anything to the 4m or the big hat. I'll leave them original. The ugly red one? well... I'm torn.

Maybe after the trailer is done I'll turn my attention to the big red.

Just picked up a 220E, a 56 with a pretty cool 'reflector / hand hold' and a neat 'vice' to clip it to stuff. Not a screaming deal, but I did okay.



That should be enough 'vintage' Coleman gear to accent the trailer nicely.

While it's fun to collect a lot of the stuff....you only really need the essentials in the proper age to make it a completely accessorized tear. I try to find the correct period cookware, dishes etc...to go with whatever "vintage" I'm trying to make the trailer. Enjoy your finds! Doug

For the Voyager, since it's kind of a mid 30's design/color etc....green enamelware, pots, pans, dishes, coffee pot, bowls the whole deal. On the Nomad...it's early 60's in appearance.... so it has coral melmac, found a whole set on e-bay. Doug
