I can't even imagine what home owner's insurance must run for the folks down your way.

Let’s just say , like most insurance , it’s expensive and they Don’t like to pay out when the time comes ... Something I never quite understood ... It’s like betting against yourself ...

Sad but true.

Around here it's a state requirement that if you live in a flood zone you have to have flood insurance. At least if there's a mortgage on the house, anyway.

I imagine if you own it outright you can get away with it.

I know from when I was house hunting a few years ago that flood insurance is outrageous, even if there hasn't been a flood in the area recently.

So, I figured it had to be pretty steep down your way considering how often you have to deal with it.

I'm sure NO is nice and all but I can't imagine any place being worth the headache, financial and otherwise. With all due respect to those who live there, I gotta believe there are some Native American spirits wandering around there shaking their heads at the notion that people still live there.

It seems as though there are natural hazards most everywhere that people might chose to live.

When I was younger in SOCAL it was earthquakes. Here on the northeast coast we have hurricanes (tho less frequently than south and gulf) and blizzards. Occasionally a rogue tornado hits CT that pales in comparison to those in the heartland. The heartland has real tornadoes and the Miss. valley has annual flooding. Mud slides and wild fires. Homes sliding off hillsides and being washed away by the oceans. There are areas with volcanoes, and on and on and on.

The bottom line is that home is where you live and where your heart is. Let us not cast aspersions, glass houses and all that rot.

I can honestly say that we are pretty lucky in that respect. Western PA has very few natural disaster worries.

We see a tornado maybe once or twice a decade and almost no earthquakes to speak of. Maybe an occasional 2 or 3 and that's about it. Even that you get maybe once or twice a decade.

Too far inland to ever see more than a heavy rain from a hurricane.

We do typically get our fair share of snow, though. Not compared with Buffalo but they don't have our hills and valleys either.
