Good solar panel?

Postby TheThom » Sun Sep 09, 2012 9:30 am

I just read the solar panel section and then came across this

http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&productId=203336897&R=203336897#.UEyvKO2TTx0

Does this seem like too good of a deal? I was planning to get a Morningstar charge controller to go with it

They are Chinese panels imported by a company in Oregon. The price is pretty good but I don't know how good the panel is.

Here's a link to a little bit of info on the solar forum I like, keep in mind they don't like Chinese panels much there. I have a Chinese panel from UL Solar and it's worked fine but YMMV:

It's at the right voltage for a 12V system so you could use a Morningstar PWM controller with it. HD shows a 90 day return window, I suppose you have to go to the manufacturer after that.

here is another grape panel and since it is from costco you can return it anytime if it turns out to be uhhhh, not good.

I have one, and it is like bringing a bazooka to a spoon fight, no worries about low battery at my camp!

I have an 80 watt from UL Solar and it has bounced over 9000 miles in the last 3 months without any issues. My 55 watt battery has never gotten below 70% running led lights, computer fan vent system and either television or car stereo without limits. Left the radio playing all night as I was parked in a truck stop parking lot on many nights. Have yet needed to hook to 110.
