Best of luck with the new tow vehicle Jim. We hope you and Jean get out and enjoy some wonderful trips before the winter.

Thanks bill & Elaine,
We've got the car broke in now, about 2500 miles on it and the hitch installed. But the glitch is the trailer lights converter box we got had a couple of dead circuts in it. The company sent us a replacement unit, which turned out to be the wrong one. So called them and told about that and they called back and said that the replacement would work, which it won't because the new TV has LED tail lights and the replacement box is for conventional lights. So they said their tech guy would call, which he hasn't and still no third box for the trailer lights, so no cmaping trip without lights. The saga continues. :(
Besides all of that we love the new car. Took about a 500 mile road trip this weekend and got over 51 mpg without towing. Have had several teardrop folks tell us that they average 30mpg while towing, so that be right where we were at towing with our 97 TDI. Makes me totally happy :D

Jim-That is terrific gas mileage, especially while towing. No wonder you are pleased.

I hope the company gets on it and sends you the correct device.

We took a look at the Glacier NP website and noted that the Going to the Sun Road will close on September 17, unless there is snow before then. Gosh, that means some years the road is only open for 8-10 weeks. Amazing!

Hope you get out camping while the weather is still good.

Just got back from a 7000 plus mile trip cross country towing my tear ( 4 x 9 1020 # loaded for camping) with a 2011 Jetta TDI 6-speed. Handled the job with ease at speeds ranging from 65 to 80 mph. Performance hardly drops in the mountains of the west or east coast. I didn't check mileage this trip but last time on flat ground I did and got 34 mpg towing on I-95 at 72mph. You will be pleased with your choice.

Lgboro,
That's really good, 34mpg at 72 mph. When I ran my 97 Passat 1.9L TDI at 70 + the milage was down to 24-25 mpg. Had to tow at around 60 to average 30 mpg. Can't wait to start towing with the 2012 Jetta.
