I wanna build this design

Postby Ira » Sun Sep 09, 2012 6:38 pm

I know a guy here builds and sells these, but I'm cheap, poor, and have nothing else to do with my time these days except disappoint my wife and kids.

Roly--are you listening?

This looks like a 4 by 6 on a 4 by 4 HF trailer, correct? I see a hatch--poorly fitted at that--but I don't want one. I just want a place to place my stinking butt, with one side door and no galley. And a very low profile like this. (If you see the VW tow vehicle, you can see how small this appears.)

Anyone got some plans for something like this, or do you expect an old Jew like me to just IMPROVISE!?

By the pic it looks like matching windows so the hatch may be the main entry for this tear. It doesn't appear that there is room for the usual door on this build. I just used two pieces of molding stuck together and bent until I got the profile I wanted and just matched the two sides. Some here used all kinds of different methods and mathematical calculations to achieve the same result.

I guess I was impressed with the small size. I definitely don't want to do a hatch.

Been there. Done that. Bad hatch.

I just discovered the Pico-Light model here, but the PDF file doesn't give the profile specs. Also, I don't have a program to open a dxf file, and that's also included. Don't know whether the dimensions are there or not, but maybe:

Can you or anyone else download that file (scroll down) and convert to PDF?

Thanks!

I really like the profile of that first one. If I could at least figure out the dimensions/specs on the sidewalls, I could improvise the rest.

More or less.

Ira!

You've got the profile pic, right? Take it down to your local Office Depot or Staples and have a transparency made, plop it on an overhead projector, project the image onto a sheet of plywood and adjust to your desired dimensions (length & height), then just trace the image you see there ... viola! ... you've got your side profile! Get your second piece of plywood and back-to-back it with the first, then cut out with a jig-saw ... viola! ... you've got your sides! As you say, the rest you can improvise ... :D ...!

CHEERS!

Yeah, Grant. It's THAT simple.

I can do the same thing in Photoshop, and extrapolate the measurements.

Except my Mac which has Photoshop installed took a crap a few months because of a bad power supply...and my brain took a crap in math and extrapolation way back in the 3rd grade.

If Mrs. Levine had told me that this math crap would help me build a TD 45 years later, I might have paid more attention.

All the profile specs are listed in the PDF. They are on the last few pages. The PDF is a very complete set of plans for the Pico-Light. There are 32 pages, so make sure you are reviewing all of them. You would not have to improvise any.
