Another stolen Camp-Inn

Postby Cary Winch » Thu Sep 13, 2012 2:23 pm

Hey all,

We all need to keep an eye out for a Camp-Inn teardrop that isn't where it belongs. Another one was stolen. One of our customers in Phoenix just had her very new 550 Ultra stolen yesterday. It was parked in the alley while work crews where using their whole yard for a project on the house. It was hitch locked and parked in by her car. Some time between 11:00 and 2:00 in the afternoon the trailer disappeared. They drug it by her car crunching the corner of the car getting it out.

Serial number is #519

Arghhh!

Any photos of it or a similar tear? Visual aids help sometimes.

As an on going debate regarding locks that do not work  what kind of lock was used?
You can think of it as a compliment that some one wants to steal them.

I'd probably see if I could get the police to run background checks on all the people working at my house that day, and see if any have criminal records, and then check for known associates. If you could get the cell phone records of any suspicious employee to check if any phone calls were made during that time period, it might be helpful. Doubtful any of this will happen, but I'd sure try.

The timing of this seems suspicious to me, and maybe the thief was called and told where to find the Camp-Inn.

The license plate number could be helpful.

this stolen trailer will likely show up on CraigsList or similar. Monitor this using something like StateWideList where you can search for items on all CraigsLists in a state; StateWideList also searches EBay along with CraigsList.
+1 on checking the backgrounds of the workers at the house. Someone had to alert someone that it was there, with no homeowners at home.

So sorry to hear that, especially with it being so new. I bet it's recovered soon. Just hope it's undamaged.

This makes me lean toward some kind of recovery system like LoJack when I get my trailer.

I was talking with her last night and she is devastated. It was the perfect storm to be taken. The good new is it was insured.

Glad she has insurance on it...another + for getting any tear insured. They are small and easy to snatch with a typical pickup. I never leave my trailer sitting out in my driveway if I'm gone (at most an hour or 2) without at least a vehicle blocking it in...and my driveway has buildings on both sides so it can't get removed without someone dragging out a car or truck as well. Could it happen, certainly.

I sure hope she gets it back, but as close as she is to the border, it is entirely possible that it went off to Mexico. Many vehicles and heavy equipment do end up there. Doug

She thinks it happen when they were home and was blocked by a car. Just not enough I guess.

I am so sorry this happened! :( That is awful!!!!! I am picking up my tt next week, and went ahead a purchased two claw tire locks. I figured that it won't take much more time to slip them on than it would to put down chock blocks, and that a thief would have to drag my trailer away or take off my tires and remount new tires... hopefully that will be a deterrent. I am hoping that the Campin is found undamaged very soon, and that the thief is caught!!!

I am an advocate of the Lo-Jack system for all mobile items of value. It's worth the money. If you hook it up to your solar system, it will run indefinitely.
