Take a look at these sites for a cartop that could be adapted to a motorcycle trailer. I've been considering something along this line if Madjack and I EVER get done with the Alligator Tear.

I have towed the little cargo trailers with the goldwing for camping, but we'er a little tired of sleeping on the ground. I would love a teardrop, but don't know if a 'double' can be made small enough to fit comfortably behind a bike.

...so far that is all the info on the 1/4 Nelson...we have been on Roly to add more but...well that is all there is. My partner is working on plans for a MC camper that utilizes a Thule cartop carrier but it is only 36"wX96"L and might prove a little too "cozy" for two to actually sleep in....by the way, welcome to the board...iff'n ya hangout here for long you will have to learn to post pictures 'cause we really do luv da pics

what size is your trailer?
Harbor Freight has one that is pretty stout for its size.

Stout isn't the issue...

And I'm not totaly sure the issues can be overcome without some kind of foldout...

Two major concerns:
1. weight. gross and tounge (can be overcome with the right materials and building techniques, but still and issue.

2. width! (this one is a lot harder)
As the width of the trailer increases, the wiggle room within a lane lessens for the cycle. The extreme would be a 6' wide trailer... this would force the bike to stay right in the middle of the lane, riding the 'hump'. this can be done but is not much fun, and tiring! Also the wider the trailer gets the more aero-drag you generate.

So, how do you creat a teardrop that two can sleep in comfortably without being more than 48" wide??? (Magic!?) (maybe some kind of pull-out like the big travel trailers!?)


A single would be fairly doable with a 36" deck, 40" overall width, but a double is trouble!

I have built 2 tear drops that I tow with our Honda Ace Shadow Tourer (1100 cc).

The trailers loaded for trips gross about 450 pounds.

From fender edge to fender edge is about 5 feet. The only issue regarding width is to remember that the trailer is there.

Ours are 44 inches wide on the interior and works well for sleeping for the two of us. I am close to 200 pounds and wife is ..well..average.

New guy here with my first posting. We tow a Quicksilver teardrop behind our Harley electraglide. Their website is at http://www.quicksilvertrailers.com/.
My plan is to build one myself in the future but we wanted to have one right away. It tows real well, weighs about 257 lbs. empty and we both sleep inside plus carry all our caming stuff. We attach a six person tent to one side with a vestibule. Kinda like having a great room attached to your bedroom.
