Hello from NY

Postby EXCEL_NY » Fri Sep 21, 2012 7:43 pm

Hey all!! I came upon this site while searching google for some ideas to help me in my decision process in a new trailer purchase. I read through a few threads and have to say there is a ton of great tips and tricks and some amazing builds here!

So here is what I am looking to do. My goal is to have an enclosed cargo trailer that can double as a lounge. I am arrowing it down to the 8.5 x 16 foot size. I am contemplating having built to my specs or buying a used on and customize myself. I am quickly finding that having one built to my specs is going to be less expensive than buying used and building. My needs are a ramp door, a window on each side, an access door on one side to house a PA music system, 110 electrical, roof AL/heat and a generator compartment or box on the tongue. I want to go with a full 7' interior height as well. I am going back and forth with having the factory install the white vinyl walls and ceilings or just have them do the ceilings and cover the 3/8" walls in wallpaper. Considering installing some house style low profile round lights rather than the 4' light strips they are offering. I am going to finish the floors myself for sure. I am going to install a few cabinets as well as a sitting area and table.

I am really open to suggestions and comments. It looks like the project will run me around $6000 complete new from Diamond Cargo if that's the route I choose. Looking to save $$ anywhere I can so please chime in.

Thanks and glad to be a part of the community!!

:D

Welcome to the Forum!

I'm sure the CT conversion area will be a mine of info for you.

From your stated requirements, having it built to your specs sounds
the best - as long as it meets the budget of course!

As far as the lighting goes - and other things you think you may want/need -
perhaps you can have the mfr do part of it e.g., do the wiring etc. for
the interior lights prepped for the type of light fixture you want to install
yourself and so on.

Where in NY are you from? I'm originally from Olean in WNY.

Have fun planning and tweaking it once you have it.

Cheers,
Norm/mezmo
