Found a shooting range outside of Carson City built by Carson City/County. It's a beautiful range (will post some pics) that will allow me to continue another hobby, my love of shooting. I brought my 9mm AR 15 carbine and my Sig 522 and have enjoyed shooting them at the Carson range. I have to make a trip back to Boise soon to take the CT back home then return to Tahoe to attend to Mon. I will then be bringing my heavyweight AR's back with me to do some 5.56 & 7.62 shooting at the Carson range.

This living in Tahoe (on the Nevada side) ain't so bad.

A beautiful area as you stated.

Cheers,
Thom

Thom,

The fish canal is very cool. We're going back to Taylor Creek come October to watch the fall Salmon return run. We have been told it is spectacular to see. We haven't made it to Tahoe City yet but will. That is on our list of "To do" things. We did get to visit Incline Village on the North Shore last week. What a great spot! That's my first return to the North Shore in over 40 years. It is so quaint and peaceful compared to the over populated over hyped South Shore. It's all part of our plan to drive around the entire lake in due time while we are here.

In spite of our best efforts at tending to Mom she had to go in for hip replacement surgery today. She was in surgery for 7 hours. At 87 years of age undergoing 7 hours of hip replacement surgery was not good but we hoped for the best. She came through the surgery in good spirits but her heart was simply not up to the task. After surgery, while in intensive care, her blood pressure started dropping. The trauma team did their best to bring it back up but they reached a point that, as it turned out, there was nothing they could do to bring in back up. My Mother passed at 8:15 PM September 20th, 2012. I knew she couldn't last forever but still, even though I tried to prepare myself, I was not prepared for her passing this soon because she was so strong willed and positive. I am devastated.

Words don't help much now Don. Just grieve. I've been there, and know that lost feeling. It will diminish over time though, and you'll remember all the great times and great moments and cherish them more than you ever thought possible. In the future, any thought of her will put a big smile on your face. Best wishes.

Don, I'm really sorry to hear about your Mom's passing. It's hard, but trust me, while the pain seems unbearable right now, it will change. After a while, you'll be smiling about the good times, remembering all of those little things that mattered to you and her. You will be able to laugh again, and not feel guilty about laughing. Mother has been gone for 10 1/2 years and I still miss her, but I cherish the time I spent with her and I laugh about the good times we had.

Sending positive thoughts and prayers your way.

Don, no words can make the feeling go away. Just know you are not alone. It is ok to grieve, get mad, mourn and cry. It's also ok to laugh and smile while all this is going on too. Your Mother sounds like a wonderful lady and you are so blessed to have had her for as long as you did. Prayers are sent for you and Christi.

Thank you all so much for your support through this truly difficult time for us. My Mom was a character that I think all of you would have loved, certainly all her neighbors did as did all the folks she met in the Skilled Nursing Facility she was in of late. It was her choice to under go the surgery. She knew the risk and chose to accept it... "Fix me or kill me. I will stand on my own two feet or let me go be with Pop's (My Dad who passed last year."), she told the surgeon. After the initial consultation with the surgeon wherein she told him exactly those words, and he told her the risk involved, he took me aside and asked, "Is she serious?" I replied, "OH yes! She dead serious!"

Mom grew up on a dirt poor Oklahoma farm durning the great depression. She rose above it all and worked her fanny off to make a better life for me and my brother. She is of the greatest generation. I miss her. Where it not for what I see in my Daughter, the sacrifice she and my son-in-law make for my grand kids, I would tend to say they don't make them like Mom anymore but, in my Daughter, I see that they do. God bless her and all of you for your kindness.

Again, thank you all so much for you kindness. It ain't been easy.

Don & Christi.

We're finally back in Boise, as of today, after a near 2 1/2 month stay in Tahoe taking care of Mom. We didn't get to use the CT for the excursions we hoped for while in Tahoe but it was great to have along on the trip from Boise to Tahoe and the return trip. It allowed us to break up the 8 hour drive by spending the night in the Walmart parking lot in Winnemucca, the 4 hour halfway point between Boise and Tahoe. On the return trip I finally found out how long I can run the Honda EU2000i generator on a single fill up of its slightly less than 1 gal. tank... about 11 hours of run time powering our Sears dorm reefer, the battery tender, and an intermittent 1500 Watt small electrical resistance heater (the heater has a fan and a thermostat that kicks on and off when set on the medium high setting, enough to keep us warm in the CT in upper 30's/low 40's degree temps at night). I filled the generator up at about 8:00 PM the night before and it ran out of gas at about 7:00 AM the next morning. I was impressed. It's a dandy little generator that tucks under the lower bunk for travel/storage. I think this winter I will buy another, EU2000i the "Companion" generator to have the pair here at the house for power outage emergencies (4000 Watts when combined).

We will be in Boise for a week to 10 days to winterize our house/pool and then we have to return to Tahoe to settle Mom's affairs, deal with an estate sale, and deal with the bank regarding disposition of her house.

Best regards to all and, again, thank you for your thoughtful sympathy in our time of great loss.
