Randy, we didn't want to scare off the deer with all that light! However a little gremlin left a stove at our campsite before we left. Apparently you people are going to make a completely white gas convert out of me yet. Don't know why you did it, but thanks Randy! So tell us about this one.

Nothing special about it, just a run of the mill 500 from the early 50's. That I got back in 2009. I put a new cap gasket in it and straightened the grate some. Still leans a bit. It is a good burner. I use it in the shop to heat my branding iron for marking my pieces. I got another at an estate sale this spring.

His price is nuts. At least he does say the fount is not original but does have original fount. I felt he stated pretty plainly what it is and has the pics. I guess some of the people asking him questions can't read to well. Or he has changed the listing. I can't see where he called the "whole" lantern as original. Just the vent and the old fount.

If I read it correctly - an original baby poop yellow (Gold Bond) fount is included in the sale, so you can build one original lantern if you so choose. I just think it's nuts to spend 600.00 on a single lantern. That said, I'm sure there is more than one person who'd call me nuts for paying 150.00 for my Model 1 stove.

What makes the gold bond lanterns so pricy? Are they magical? ;)

They are gold.

What got me was some of the questions/comments people made to the seller. I can't see anyplace he tried to defraud people. Just that his price is a tad high.

Gold Colored..Yes Rare..Yes Like buying a KR500 Shelby instead of a 6 cylinder Mustang price wise..Yes

Back in the roaring 90's I sold my grandpops 200A (regretfully) for close to $100. Miss it but it kept the wolves at bay (along with a half dozen BSA tents...LOL).

Im glad there is people keeping good things working and pretty but also glad there are a bunch of us that will keep the night sun burning as well.. :wine:

Absolutely stupid.

Says right in the listing, "The check valve is bad on the nonoriginal painted fount, so it is being sold for display only."

It is simply a piece of "art" (...or parts?), and "arty" art prices are generally trumped up for those that can be fooled into believing that if you pay too much for something it becomes worth it, or your status in life will be justified. I don't think that the seller is intentionally trying to fool anyone, just that he is trying to take advantage of fools with more money than sense.
