Lost my job-- found a job YAYYYY

Postby PKCSPT » Thu Sep 27, 2012 4:03 pm

Well they let me go, fired,, no more job. New management, temporary at that, I was number 6 in 3 weeks.
At least I don't have the stress of waking up every morning wondering if today was the day.
Everyone said I should take a couple of days and go camping,, I agree but none of them offered to help the financing.
My problem is looking for a job,,,, boy is it tough. Oh well, I am sure something will come up.

Karen,

Happened to me up here in Northern Minn. about a month ago. I do believe in the adage about a new door opening. I have made the most of the time off. Taking care of my wife who had a stroke and a bit of work around the place.

Decided today to start the Cobra ins and will find some work soon and get back in the saddle for a while. It get better after the rejection has worn off. You will move on to something better I know. :worship:

Wishing I was unemployed so I could start my camping journey. Under contract until July 2013.

My tow is in for tranny repairs and I've yet to buy/build a trailer.

I could build something if I wasn't working, see how that works?

Gosh , I haven’t has a Real job in 42 years... :o Early on , I decided I liked being Self employed... I get to be the Boss ... make my own opportunities ... ;)
America is based on small business, something the corporations/ "vulture capitalists" would rather do without ...

Karen,

It seemed all I did for the first few days after I was downsized was sleep. Take care of yourself. I took a lot of the 8 months I was off work to reaccess what it was I really wanted to do. Then I focused on jobs that would fulfill that goal. Worked out well for me. I will be praying for you.
Remember, the turtle won. :)

Karen I feel for you loss, been there done that.

Lets see now, I have real problems with my congress critter who like the majority have voted against job bills consistently, to deny one individual his job. This includes the veterans job bill and cost of living for vets. With what has been said Willard will be defeated resoundingly, bet money on it.

Karen , I'm sorry about the loss of your job. But, this will open new doors got you. Just think, you might be able to find a job that is fun!!!! Hey, it can happen!!

Since I retired last year, I've had 3 part time jobs. Working in a library--too confining. Delivering meals to seniors--a satisfying job, paid the best of the three jobs, but I didn't like the inner-city neighborhoods. Now I take seniors to Dr appointments, dialysis, shopping--whatever they need, in nice neighborhoods. It's a feel good and fun job. I drive around in a wheel chair bus and I get to talk, listen, laugh and help.

So, I know you're not retired yet, but remember to look at those part time jobs, too. Maybe, just maybe, you'll find a job that is fun to go to every day.

And downsizing isn't fun--BTDT. Three times, and many scares and threats of downsizing. Yes, the knowledge that you don't have to worry about it now is a relief.

Unless you have been unemployed you don't know the feeling
like many here I too was unemployed the bills keep going on
no one says "your not working? then let me pay for your gas".
so if your desire is to take time off to build a trailer then take
time off, but please don't wish you were without a job.
I hope Karen finds something soon and that sinking feeling goes away.

All I can say is take care of yourself. Losing a job is hard on your health. I have no advice, I live in a different part of the country and managed to survive many "downsizings" by moving to where work was. I made it to retirement age, which is becoming a rare thing.

Do take care. Please.

I am so very sorry Karen to hear about the loss of your job. I'm sure it's very frightening. My daughter is in the same position right now, has been unemployed since August and is a single mom with 2 children. She keeps going by babysitting for people and picking up the odd thing here and there, plus we try to help, but I see the pain and frustration she is feeling and it is heartbreaking. She seems to go on a job interview nearly every day and has even been called back for a second interview a couple of times, but still nothing. I feel confident she will find something eventually as she is a quality person, smart and hardworking. It just takes the right person to realize that. I am sure it is the same with you. You just need to get out there until you find that person. In the meantime, a positive attitude and trying to avoid depression will be the order of the day.

These are interesting times. I recall when I was young, anyone who wanted to work could do so, at something. It seemed there were help wanted signs in windows everywhere all the time. And getting a job back then didn't require jumping through hoops and wading through piles of red tape. You could walk into a business, talk to the owner or manager, he'd ask when you could start, you'd shake hands, he'd take the sign out of the window and it was done. Now it seems you have to be "vetted" for even the entry level jobs. Crazy times.
Life is sooooo good.........

We've often heard the saying, "When one door closes another opens".
Let's hope and pray that it is true for you.
Don't give up hope. Keep looking for that "other" door.

Dear SW Ohio neighbor, I went through the ringer of losing my job in late 2004, Foreclosed and evicted in early 2006. The bank POUNCED on my mortgage thinking they could flip it for a profit but then the market collapsed. Trust me, being underemployed is nice, now living at home helping my 74 yo mother, but the pay I'm getting I could manage on my own doing side jobs.

Self employed/contracted courier = 45-50% of pay goes to taxes, SSI/FICA, gasoline, and repairs.

BTW, just south of Fairfield in Hamilton County.
