Lost my job-- found a job YAYYYY

The help wanted signs are still out there. Problem is most folks don't want a starter job to get in the door then work their way up. Insert our Mexican/Latino/Hispanic brothers that ARE willing to work in low paying and sometimes hazardous conditions.

A college degree and $70k in debt for four years still doesn't provide ANY common sense, which you cannot teach IMHO.

I'm so sorry to hear about your misfortune, and have gone through it myself. After months of resumes disappearing in the black hole that monster and the big jobsites have become, I finally got interviews and a job answering an ad on Craigslist. Smaller companies seem to post there. And don't forget the temp agencies. They are still out there and lots of times are the introduction to a full time position (and a bandaid while you're looking).

Don't let this make you doubt yourself. Your abilities will be valued somewhere.

I understand, having been thru that a number of years ago. Persevere, there are jobs out there.

If you have the option of relocating it might help, as certain areas of the country are booming, while others are languishing.

Thanks for all the encouragement. It helps to hear others have been through this.
used to be if you worked hard and were loyal to your job it meant something, Times have changed.
Hopefully I will have an interview next week,, not what I want but it would be a paycheck and although it is not the position I want it is a hotel I would like to work in so pro and con. Just hate to go back to cleaning rooms,, not as young as I once was. But I would only have to do it for 6 months then I could move to a different department when a position opens up.. I can handle rooms for 6 months.
So keep your fingers crossed I can get the interview and convince them I am better than the others also trying for the same job.

A while back , was raking leaves, saw two teens boys pass by , so i asked them if they’d like to make 20 bucks ... They looked at me and laughed, then said that they’d do it for 50 bucks ... then giggled and walked down the street texting their friends ... Attitude !!! They could have raked a few leaves for 20 minutes , and made a few bucks ...
We also see a lot of recent College grads , approach the job market with few skills and No experience feeling entitled to a good well paying job , same as someone with seniority ... Unwilling to start at the bottom and work their way up ... Attitude!!!
Getting a job today requires you Sell yourself to your prospective employer, convincing them that you are Smart, have good social skills , and are willing to work your Best for the company ... no matter what position you start ... Todays employers are Only concerned about the Bottom Line (Profit) , and care little to deal with any employees that won’t give it their All ... Difficult ... yes !!! Impossible , No , not if you’re smart ....

Being self employed for many years now , and having to be the Boss occasionally .. I’ve had to interview people to work for me ... Some worked out , some were just ill suited to the job as it worked out over time ... You think finding a job is hard , try hiring somebody to work for you ... somebody , you can talk to on an intelligent level , train for the job, someone who actually shows up when you need them,has no emotional problems or vices, and gets along with others ... and someone who gets better at their work and contributes to your economic situation , rather than being a liability ... It’s a double edge sword...

GPW, trying to find someone to work for me that "CARES" about QC and doing the job right the first time, not easy for what I do.

I can sell myself to get a job. I'm always willing to learn if the job is interesting. If I go to a job interview I end up interviewing the person trying to interview me. I do this to waste as little time IF I'm not interested in their offering. I'm very up front about this. I don't wanna waste my time or their time.

Right now I have job offers in Cali which are both part time and would allow some time to camp with a TnTTT that I don't have yet.

Also I have this thing called loyalty. I won't just walk away from a company without proper 2-4 weeks notice. I know that is unheard of now, but I have my values.

It really doesn't matter to Karen that I was out of work what matters is that she fines a job
sounds like she has been out looking and maybe by this time she has found something.

DItto on the sympathy for the way the last job ended.

Also a BIG ditto on the remembering the temp agencies. My daughter went to a couple to tide her over while she was looking for what passes as permanent these days. Her current "temp" job is a great fit for her, she's making more money than she ever has and tells us its the first job that she's really enjoyed!

It was a temp assignment for 2 months. Then they extended for another 6 months, now they're extending for another 6 months. She's happy, they're happy even though it's "not permanent".

She had worked several multi-week assignments at various places while someone was out on extended leave or it was their busy time of year.

Also have a friend who got laid off and picked up some temp jobs in his field for a couple of weeks at a time for several months. He got put on regular staff eventually at one of the companies that liked the way he worked.

I always felt bad for someone who lost their job unfairly,, I've known a few. Now I can really empathize with them.

Still looking, got a few leads but unfortunately it seems a lot of others have the same ones.

Thank you to all for your support, I found a job. Just waiting on my background check. Not a full 40 hours and still in hotels which I was hoping to get out of and working night audit I really didn't want to work the desk BBUUTT I heard from so many people that didn't take a job that wasn't enough hours or what they wanted who are still unemployed a year or two later and no unemployment left. I figure if I still don't like it in a few months I can look for another job. And on the bright side I have a set schedule for the first time in years and will be home evenings to have dinner with family. loving that idea
