Viewing Pictures on this forum

Postby toolman » Thu Oct 11, 2012 11:12 am

I don't know why I can no longer view pictures posted to this forum. All I can see is the dreaded red X.

If anyone has a suggestion as to a cure for this problem I certainly would appreciate an answer.

Thank in advance for a good answer.

Clear cookies and temp internet files to start. Instructions differ per whatever browser you use.

Thank you for your reply. I did as you suggested, still not seeing pictures.

Actually I misspoke in my first post. I can see SOME of the pictures, but I cannot see ALL the pictures.

Here is an example: http://www.tnttt.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=52697

I can see the image of the dog, but not the pictures in the post.

Here is one more: http://www.tnttt.com/gallery/album.php?album_id=735

The image at the top of the page was there, but all the pictures in the album did not show up at all.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm not sure what to say but still guessing a browser issue. You can test that theory by trying to load the page with another browser. If your using internet explorer, you might try Google chrome or Mozilla Firefox. If the issue persists with a different browser, then I would temporarily disable your firewall/antivirus just to pinpoint the source of the problem.

Do these things one at a time to pinpoint what is causing it.

Edit - for those of you having the same problem, share what browser, firewall software, and antivirus software your using. If its a common software issue, you could help others identify the issue.

Recent changes when the forum migrated to a different server changed how pics are posted to the forum. It could be the ones you can't see were not posted correctly and no one may be seeing them. My main computer took a dive and I'm on a netbook so I haven't tried to post any pics since the change and it just isn't easy to post one to see.

Mike,

Using IE 8. I could only view the last picture, not the first two.

This old computer has Netscape 7.2 on it so I used it. All three pictures appeared. One said log in to view picture with out watermark. Logged in and message was no longer their.

Conclusion. Something is wrong with IE 8 browser settings, I guess.

Just load Netscape and used it if pictures are important to view.

I'm glad the problem is only with this forum and not all the others I read.

Okay!

I figured out that the problem is with Windows Firewall. I turned it off and the images appeared as if magic.

Alright, not really magic but you know what I mean.

Thank you for your help. :applause:

I lowered the setting from medium-high to medium and it is working fine now.

Gage,

Your so right!!!!

I spoke WAY TO SOON.

I went to a few other posts with pictures and no go. :(

It seems that the pictures I thought were downloading were actually in my image cache.

It seems that my version of IE has a problem with this type of link. Not all pictures, just some. The pic of you mug is this type of link but it shows up. Go figure!

download/file.php?avatar=35_1329008933.jpg

The old school links don't seem to cause a problem.

Guess I'll just stick to using Netscape for this forum.

Jerry first read this, http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Reset-Internet-Explorer-8-settings

Then if your comfortable with what that said, do this

1. Close anyInternet Explorer or Windows Explorer windows that are currently open.

2. Open Internet Explorer by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Internet Explorer.

3. Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.

4. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Reset.

5. Select the Delete personal settings check box if you would like to remove browsing history, search providers, Accelerators, home pages, and InPrivate Filtering data.

6. In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, click Reset.

7. When Internet Explorer finishes applying default settings, click Close, and then click OK.

8. Close Internet Explorer.

Your changes will take effect the next time you open Internet Explorer.

Whimperdink,

I downloaded (I guess more accurately redownloaded) IE 8 for this old computer. Then ran "fixit" and did everything you posted.

All I can say is . . . THANK YOU! It is fixed and working fine now. I checked several posts in different catigories and I had no red X's. :woohoo:!

Thanks so much.

Now, if you could get a DSL line to my place . . .

I live in the boonies here in the MO Ozark Mtns., somewhere between the end of the earth and the gates of hell. CenturyTel said the DSL line is only 1,300 feet from my house, which might as well be 13 miles. If only I could find a line streatcher to get it to my door! Alas, I know not when they will ever go down our road. Hopefully before I'm planted 6 feet under.

Thanks again for all your help. 8)
