Not building, but at least we're camping

Postby Papi » Thu Oct 11, 2012 3:13 am

We have been extremely busy the last couple of years, with work and grandkids and Anna's photography business and illness. So it was nice to finally get out in the woods (at least for me) for a while. It had been far too long!

We got the old trusty popup set up at Ft. Mountain State Park. It's an all right place to camp; not great, but not bad. 98684

While foraging for firewood, I came across this bear-resistant box (nothing is bear proof!) 98681 We never actually saw any bears, but did see a lot of girl scouts. Maybe they scared the bears away.

There's just enough room for life's little comforts inside. 98682

Set up is really easy, but I can't wait to finish my foamie so all I have to do is disconnect the tow vehicle, plug up to shore power, and set up the chairs. 98680

Well, that's all for now.

Sounded like you had fun!

I grew up in a tent, then a motorhome, then a 5th wheel. As a dad we went through a couple cheap pop-ups and reverted back to tent camping to teach the kids a few "values". Or was that the kids became teens and complain about everything  The pop up or tent campers served us well over the years. Like a tear, it gets you off the ground and out in the great outdoors

I tore our last pop up down and just mounted the cabin of my tear to it's frame. It's taking way too long to finish, but at least I am still working on it!

Popups aren't bad, but like what I went through in the tent years, a thunderstorm popped up (no pun intended) and I got soaked! The canvas is like a tent- touch it, and water wicks in. Work begins in earnest soon on my tear project.

I camped at one of the Nat. Park campgrounds at the Grand Canyon this summer and the ranger and park manager came over wanting to see the inside of my tear. They timed me setting up camp and said it was under a minute. The campground did not have power so all I had to do was unhook from the car and run my jacks down with the drill. By far the easiest camp I had ever set up. :)
