xenon puck lights questions

Postby Aaron Coffee » Sat Oct 13, 2012 7:03 pm

I bought lights like these for #2, and on the box it said that the output of the wall wart plug in is 12volt ac, it got me wondering if I can hook these up to 12volt dc. How do I tell if the output is indeed ac and not dc? I took the bulb out of a 12 volt interior light (from ebay)and it looks identical(I have to find my maginying glass to read what wattage it is. I hooked one of the puck lights up to a 12 volt battery and it lights up.

I have a set of puck lights and hooked them up with an on/off/on switch so they will work weather plugged in or just on battery power. So to answer your question, they work just fine on battery. The bulbs don't know the difference.

12volt DC is twelve volt DC....

I'd suggest looking at LED lighting...I've got those pucks in my home kitchen for under counter lighting.....Man,do they get hot!!!!

I did the same thing for my galley lights. I have a 3 position switch between the provided transformer and the fixtures. 12 volts from the battery comes into the same switch, so if I'm plugged in I can go either way. Works great!
