Wood stove

Home depot has three inch pipe. I used three inch exhaust pipe from an auto parts store for my home made stove but would get the real deal if I needed through roof fittings.

Is that 3 inch stove pipe or 3 inch vent pipe? Stove pipe is black and vent pipe is galvanized and made of thinner metal. I can't find smaller stove pipe here so I used vent pipe but before installing it I got the sections of it that are inside the camper glowing red to burn off the galvanization (it is poisonous when burned off).

I saw this a few years ago and I was quite impressed by the simplicity of it. There is lots that could be done to convert it to almost anything you want. As a heater and stove for cooking it looks great. It's also very cheap to make.

Pellet stoves use 3" pipe. I would assume that they use a chimney pipe of sorts though I'm not up on the terminology. When I was up there looking at it, they had some three inch thin black pipe. I opted for automotive exhaust pipe because its so much thicker and no more expensive. Mine is being used as a chiminea type thing at the moment ssoo safety was less of a concern.

I admit i used the galvanized pipe....burned the new stove and pipes on high for a few hours with the door opened to burn off the finish....make sure to have a co2/smoke alarm in the trailer just in case. I leave the window 6 " from my nose wide open when i use my propane heater just in case so i dont wake up undead lol.

I was thinking of burning off the galvinzed as well then clean up the pipe some what and put on a coat of stove black high temp paint on everything to help give it a nice clean look

another question about stoves if I had a longer chimney say ran it through a 45 then had it go through the trailer a ways and then to another 45 up and out of the roof would that be a bad thing to do I know to keep it clean so I don't mind taking it apart and cleaning it but I don't want to build a trailer and then burn it down seems like a big waste to me...

If, when you are making a wood stove, you do burn off or weld and galvanised steel plate or pipe; be aware of the potential of fume fever. It's symptoms are very similar to flu and can come on in as little a 4 hours after working with the galvanised metal.
Even if you work area has adequate ventilation it is advisable to wear a NIOSH approved respirator (for the American contingent), Category III PPE (for UK members) for burning off or welding galvanised steel, I've know to many people laid off sick because they forgot to wear a mask.

If you do want to build your own out of a gas bottle, you could do worse than to read this thread Del Wag's Stove, made by a very talented Octogenarian of my acquaintance.

It seems to me that the one question that I have always had about a wood or charcoal stove in a confined space is where does the combustion air come from? In order to use these heaters or stoves in a tear or TTT it seems to me that outside air, not just an open vent or window makes more sense. Open a window or vent and then heat that cold air? The beauty of Bob Henry's system is that his potbelly stove is behind that glass door on the inside of his trailer and that space is open to the outside for combustion air. The only link to the atmosphere inside the trailer is the radiant heat given off by his stove. That is safe. I have looked around extensively for heaters or stoves that are commercially available and not found much. A couple of the expensive bulkhead propane heaters for boats use an outside air pipe to bring combustion air to the heater. The solid fuel either wood or charcoal stoves do not. We are in very small spaces inside our trailers and I think that using a wood stove inside should involve using outside air for combustion. It is the only really safe and sure method and makes much more sense than having open windows or vents to let in cold air. The candle heater that has been talked about a few times here on the forum uses outside air. The combustion is not dependent on the air in the trailer. Some similar system with more BTU's than candles would seem to be what we should be trying to engineer. Some one has a lantern in a compartment that uses an outside air source is maybe close to the goal also. I like the idea of a wood stove for heat but let's not forget how dangerous burning the air inside our trailers is and how senseless it seems to heat cold air from an open window or vent. Just my thoughts on this subject.

if you use B vent pipe. you can burn fresh air and then on the inside of that its the exhaust pipe. one its a cooler pipe. two, you dont have to cut such a huge hole to vent it out. due to the pipe not being so hot it could burn your trailer down. but ooooo what a nice heater that would be huh

Whats B vent pipe does it connect just like regular pipe? as I'm looking at a 3 inch pipe
