Calling all roofers

Postby Boanerges4 » Wed Oct 24, 2012 10:18 am

I NEED HELP!!! I posted a question about my roof and got very little response. I found a source for 29 gauge aluminum at a good price but the problem is weight. I found another source for .040 but the cost would be appx. 300 dollars. Im trying to cover an area 78 inches wide by 17 feet long. Im on the cheap like most people and I cant see 300 in the roof. This new economy with the high prices is killing me. Somebody in TEARDROP LAND should have a good alternative. Please help Im at a standstill. :? :NC

We used canvas. Glued down with titebond glue, and painted with latex house paint.

Not a gloss finish, you can see the weave, but we really like how it turned out, and sealed the edges.

Look at my build journal (under Horny Towd) for more pictures and descriptions.

Thanks biz, does the material have a name and can it be bought at one of the box stores?

If you can use a thin plywood backer, the thinner aluminum should work.
It may be easily damaged, but with care will keep the water out.
As others have suggested, canvas or vinyl material, if placed over a backer will do.
You can use it without a backer, but you're back to a tent.

Decided to go with DURAFLASH from HD, got it on order. Will post after I put it on and let you know how it works out. Thanks Dennis 8)
