What's on your road trip playlist?

Postby jeffmutch » Fri Oct 19, 2012 7:05 am

I'd like to hear about ya'lls entertainment choice while cruising down the open road!

-Is it a tribute to the Doobie Brothers the entire way?
-Talk radio?
-Dvd on for the kids?
-The person in the other seat that never stops yapping?

What comes to mind when you think of the perfect cross-country drive?

-Jeff

If we are going to one of our favorite camping areas we have "local" radio stations programmed into the radio so we can listen to the news and music of that area. Otherwise, if it is a long trip we do books on CD or use my Ipod. I have appoximately 5000 titles and growing so far. Everything but Rap (I hate that stuff). Pandora is really good too.

I am one of those who doesn't listen to the radio while driving on a trip and only rarely driving around here.

for some reason it bothers me more to try and listen to music, talk radio or even a ballgame.

while trying to Concentrate on my driving.

when we both go we seem to do a lot of talking.

I used to listen to the New Wave Channel on Sirius before I got rid of my satellite radio. My car looked like the cockpit of a plane with all my gadgets. I now listen to my mp3 player. I set an album to play and drive for the 40m to an hour that the album takes to run through, then take a break from teh road. Usually, I play hard rock from the 70s-90s. It's more or less mindless, so it doesn't distract me from the road, but is still fun.

Lots of Jimmy Buffett :) When I used to do lots of long road trips I had many many cassette tapes of Bill Cosby, Richard Pryor, George Carlin, etc comedy routines. Those used to really make the miles pass quickly.

Satellite radio is first on the list, but I also have all of my CD's on my iPod. I'll listen to local radio in bad weather, if I can find it. 50's, 60's, and 70's Rock and Roll...ZZ Top is my favorite for driving :dancing:

I like to listen to Talk radio, Pandora (music) and CD's.

I love to travel and the entertainment from my "internet phone and radio" plus my recorded CD's make it enjoyable. If I run out of things, I plug in the iPod.

My wife has always coveted the XM radio in my truck. I got a lifetime sub 4 years ago, they were on shaky ground at the time so the subs were pretty cheap. I figured that if they stick around for 3 years I'd be OK and it would essentially be free after that. I got my wife an XM radio adapter for her car that uses an app on the iPod touch to control it. I never got around to mounting the antenna properly so the signal wasn't the best. She got tired of it and started downloading audio books from Audible onto the iPod and listening to that instead. She liked it so much that she let the XM sub lapse and is more than happy with the audio books. I was able to load books from her account onto my iPod so we only have to buy them once.

I think it's pretty great we have so many options in this modern age. Who ever thought we'd be streaming audio from the internet as were flying down a desolate Nevada road at 70 mph!?

Love the ZZ top!! It's also on my feel good travel playlist. Along with Collective soul, The Eagles, and Aerosmith.

I usually switch between music, talk radio, and stand up comedy to keep my own attention. I find I can only listen to the same comedy skit a couple times before I'm bored though.

Thanks for the comments and please keep them coming! :D

I'm bad. I listen to the Outlaw Country channel on the satellite. I like the variety they have.

Big on books on cd for long travel, like to IRG. or now ipod. Also save up on podcasts of radio shows we like, like "wait, wait don't tell me" and prairie home companion. Now that i have found the app to listen to npr across the country on my iphone, i am a happy camper! Found the few app when i was looking for a way to listen to the duet contest on phc this weekend. Wanted to listen to a favorite of ours, mamuse from Chico ca, and dang if they didn't win! Glorious! Give them a listen if you like close harmony acapela (sp?) Www.mamuse.org. They won with "Hallelujah". The first time we heard them was at an open mike with maybe 50 people talking loudly at a folk music festival in placerville area of CA. They started singing "altar" and everyone just went silent with their jaws hanging open. It was an amazing experience. We have heard them in person maybe 6-7 times. And now they are on national radio show!

Also oldies rock and roll, blues for randy (ask him about the blues cruise next time you meet), and folk, with of course, MaMuse. :)

Around town I use my Android tablet or phone to listen to some podcast or downloaded content that plays through my radio via the aux plug. On road trips I let my daughter plug up her iPhone and oddly enough I mostly like what she plays. Modern country to old 60s and 70s CCR and Beatles.

She doesn't like rap either! :)

If I'm not going far, it's usually plain old radio. If I'm heading down to FL for some quality time with Mickey, I have several Disney CDs that I rotate through! Gets me in the mood for my visit. Then, when I'm on the way home, it prolongs the enjoyment
