ground clearance

Postby droid_ca » Thu Oct 25, 2012 12:17 pm

how high of the ground is your trailer ?

Is it street only ?

Do you take it off road ?

Do you scrape ?
There is a world, just beyond now,
where reality runs a razor thin seam between fact and possibility;

Anywhere I roam where I lay my head is home....

about 22" to the bottom of the frame.
Take it off road a lot. :D

Only thing that's scraped/ dragged is the tongue jack. I've bent it several times. :thumbdown:

A winter project is to make it removeable.

About 19" clearance for mine. Its been offroad a couple of times but nothing severe yet.
I bult the frame so that it actslike a skid plate just in case I do drag it. I also made the tongue jack removable so I would not have to worry about it hanging down to catch on stuff.

My teardrop on a HF frame with 12" wheels has about 17-1/2" of clearance below the frame. My battery cage hangs a little lower, with about 13-14" of clearance. And the axle is the lowest point with only 9-10" of clearance. I don't do any serious off-roading, but I do boondock in some remote areas down some sketchy and rutted-out dirt roads. Have only scraped the axle once or twice.

From the ground to the bottom of the axle, mine is 12 inches. From the ground to the bottom of the frame, 18 inches. The important height is from the ground to the axle as initially this tells you what size holes or rocks you can get over when in the bush. I see so many in the photos that are so low that they couldn't be taken off the bitumen. This would stop such a TD from traveling around Australia and you would miss out on all that can be seen.

My TTT has 8" clearance.
I, of course, do not take it off road.

I am working on variable height with air shocks to give more ground clearance. At 6' wide and with wheels sticking out any off road will be limited.
