depends how elaborate you want to go. just the basics would be some straw, twine, and add some clothes. do some googling and you can come up with some really cool ideas.

2 2x4's clothing, gloves, straw, pumpkin for the head. We make a cross with the bar 3ft long 1ft from top of the other 2x4. We usually set that one in ground around a foot. My wife always puts the clothes on it and fills with straw and ties the ends with twine. Last thing we do is carve the pumpkin head and set it on the top of the body 2x4 and adds a cheap led candle light. Looks great and it cheap to make. Sorry this is being posted from my cell lol, hope this helps.

Thanks for all the ideas !!! ... We rounded up some interesting Sticks and limbs , string, and found a roll of black garden cloth to use for a makeshift cape and sew up a big Hat from ... Stuffed plastic bag head , button eyes and painted scary grin ... Trying to make it all waterproof , so it will last ... halloween or not we do have lots of Crows out here in the woods ... :o

Just had a thought of making a “headless” scarecrow , holding the pumpkin head in one hand .... Oohh!! Scary ... :frightened:

Eagle You know , we’ll Have to see the :pictures: of that !!! :D

Been doing some little sketches of scarecrows , decided on a PVC pipe for the main stick (painted dark brown , like wood ) , that way I can just stick it over a piece of rebar pounded into the ground (no digging ) ... the cross stick (arms ) just tree branches duct taped to the pipe ... Easy ! No clothes per se , just black garden fabric draped and tied with string over the sticks to simulate a cape or such , something to blow in the wind creating movement ... Going “headless” , with one arm holding up the Pumpkin head... Scary !!! :frightened: A Foam pumpkin will be light enough not to drag the figure over (imbalance ) ... Trying to keep it Simple ... ( and Thrifty using things we have around ) All I need is the Foam pumpkin .. cheap enough at the store ... Probably Much cheaper after Halloween ..

if you have a micheals, you could check them out. they had some of the pumpkins on sale. i picked up 2 the other day $8 a piece. still expensive, but not as bad as full price.
you could make your own pumkin though. you probably have everything you need already. garbage bag for size you want. stuff it with newspaper. then tie string around it for that pumpkin shape. then just dilute your tb2 and run strips of paper thru it. slap it on the stuffed bag. then paint. cheap, but a little time consuming. should be waterproofed also. you can also gore it out by adding pulled cotton balls on, use your tb2 for this also. cover the whole thing with the cotton. then paint it black (or a brown color), on top of that use dry brushing with orange or whatever you like (your the artist). :D

i am just hoping that sandy does not hit us for halloween or there will be no pics since we might not be doing it this year.

thanks gpw. hubby said he is shocked that i have not made plans to evac. i hate to admit this, but i think this time we are going to get slammed. we have evac'd the last few that were higher in cat #, and nothing has ever happened to our area. but this time, i just feel it. so i may be like you and out of power for a while. we don't have a generator, so i have been stocking up on can stuff and other non refridge type things. expected landfall is only about 40 miles north of us. so as far as a hurricane hitting, that is pretty dam close, we will get all the outer wind/rain damage.
hmm, maybe i will look at going someplace after all. :frightened:

I hear Arkansas is Nice this time of year ...

Seriously , from our last “experience” , the lower winds for long duration just ERODE most everything ... :frightened: If you’re prone to flooding , I’d say Leave !!! If not , just secure everything Well for a long blow ... plan on being out of services for a week or more ... stock up on Water, ice , firewood/charcoal, food that doesn’t spoil, gas up the vehicles .... and don’t forget the Flashlights ... Just like camping, but at home ...

Hopefully this storm will die down from hitting all that cooler air... before it gets up there ... :NC

Ps. a generator is a GOOD thing to have .... We’re getting one now , after our neighbor loaned us his after Isaac ...

Picked up a nice foam (I guess) style Pumpkin with a big evil grin at Walmart ($6.00) ... only problem , the lighting is AC plug in the wall , so have to make a LED light for it ...with batteries ... I really wanted something BIGGER, just couldn’t find anything .... so will have to be content with a smaller scarecrow ... crows won’t know the difference ....
