Animal Cruelty in Arkansas

I don't know if any of you guys have seen the HBO documentary "Dealing Dogs, " but here's a link to it with the schedule:

http://www.hbo.com/docs/programs/dealingdogs/index.html

If anyone in Arkansas wants to take a ride over to the owner of this kennel, the main subject of the film, and beat the crap out of him...

Well, after seeing this show, I doubt there's one person on this board who would give you a hard time about doing it.

This was one of the most incredible cases of animal abuse you'll ever witness, shot undercover at a "kennel" that buys dogs from people at flea markets (many stolen), and then sells them to laboratories.

Laboratories where the dogs would have been BETTER treated.

I wanted to get on a plane and tear this guy's throat open--and this time, I'm NOT joking about violence. You have to see this show.

this was appalling and is the subject of intense debate in the animal community right now. I personally want to kick this guy's ass, and also the owners of puppymills, and also backyard breeders who knowlingly churn out poorly bred dogs with serious genetic and behavior issues.

Please leave dog breeding to respected breeders who can afford to do all the genetic testing and show titling.

also, this is a good case against "free to a good home" ads as many people get animals for labs and such this way as well. if anyone must give up a pet, get an adoption fee for the local shelter or rescue, it will discourage people with bad intentions.

I will hold them while someone takes a two x four to these kind of people. My new dog was placed in a no kill shelter at two months and spent twelve months there until I rescued him about 6 weeks ago. We are attending obedience school and all ten dogs in the class are rescue dogs.

Alan, I'm dying to get a dog, but the wife has been resistant. I had a certain "breed" in mind, but after seeing this show and hearing what you did, if I can ever convince her, I'm going to do the same thing.

My dog growing up was a mixed breed--Heinz (57 varieties)--and he was the best. What could be better than giving a home to a dog that NEEDS one?

Ira,

There are many greyhounds in South Florida that are in need of rescue. Only a small percentage get to live to race, the rest are "culled". Many are mistreated and starved if they don't measure up. The practices of many breeders are morally and ethically wrong. So if you desire to kick some ass, you could do it without leaving your own county. There are a few greyhound breeders that do have a network of adoption places, but compared to how many are bred, more die than live.

I forgot all about the greyhounds. Contrary to what a lot of people think, they're very sweet, mellow animals. There's a misconception that they're all very jumpy.
